I believe several members of our poultry club raised Buckeyes for 4H "Know Your Breed" project last year.  If it doesn't work out with Wing, I can ask the club members if they have eggs.

This particular post was about some turkeys, I believe I had mentioned something about them, I believe that she is just hatching her Buckeyes so if they have some available that would be great

You can use Sevin dust or permethrin spray on the nests & bedding but ivermectin is better for the birds. You can get it in the cattle meds section of any farm supply store. Get ivomectin cattle pour on. A small bottle is about $15 & should last a year or longer on a small flock even if you treat monthly. It takes care of lice, mites, fleas, ticks, worms & can also be used on dogs & cats (same med as in frontline). Use a dropper to spread doses under wings, near vent & on back of neck. Dosages are as follows:
.5ml for adult large fowl
.25ml for juvenile large fowl & adult bantams
1-2 drops on back of neck for chicks

Oh NOOOOOO!! so sorry to hear this. I agree with Silkie! get permethrin for the coop and ivermectin for the birds. Since you only have a few, it wouldn't hurt to bathe them, then add the ivermectin.

Thanks guys! I think I will bathe them tomorrow, then treat them with ivermectin and the coop with permethrin. Do I have to blow dry them, or is baking in the sun enough to bring out their fluffy cuteness?!

And of course we just put in fresh wood chips this morning, but at least I'm learning a valuable aspect of this chicken growin' stuff straight out of the gate... right?!

Thinking about getting quail but hubby wants to know if they are worth it? I was thinking of the Coturnix quail.  How much do you sell your quail eggs for?

400

I forget who asked about freezing eggs, but here they are. I used vac seal bags (without using the vac part) & just pressed the air out before sealing. You could do the same with heavy weight ziplock bags.

Not sure if you are asking what hatching quail eggs re worth, or eating eggs.
I sell my quail eggs for the same price as my chicken eggs, but the market for them is very small, most of my quail are used for meat since they are a quick turn over.

Silkie do those eggs have the same taste and texture when thawed?

That starts tonight at midnight, I have to do the month of June.....
I got lots of pics today, will post later tonight when I set up the laptop.

Well, I cleaned out the coop today and as I had been suspecting for a few days... we have lice

!! I need the most cost effective way to eradicate the buggers and I'm reading on here to use sevin dust to kill them, repeat in 7 days and again in 7 more to be sure they're toast. There is a lot of debate over DE, but seriously I need some proven, fail safe solutions that don't cost a lot. I don't think the girls are sick from them yet, but I have pulled 4 of them off me in the past hour and I am sick

I just wanted some healthy, easy to care for egg layers. I was soo excited... this was supposed to be fun

I try to clean out my coop weekly...every time I add pine shavings I mix a small amount of permethrin (sp) in the shavings....I have not seen any critters on my girls.....yet.....

Hey wingstone, my strawberries are doing really well. We're harvesting a small bowl twice a day and tons of green ones turning every day, you're more than welcome to some of those if it'll help lol. My birthday is 06/04 and I always had strawberries... this is the first year I actually get why

. Strawberries and dandelion is all I have to offer in the way of support in your time of need, but you're welcome to them. Always there to support someone in a dare given by siblings hehe!!

I just got the girls last Friday evening, so this was the weekly cleaning. I scooped the coop 3 times this week and also raked the run out 3 times, today was the full "gut/wash/replace" so it kinda bums me out lol! I am buying the permethrin and ivermectin tomorrow so I'll just have to do it again... thank gawd the wood chips were free

Well folks its game on with me and a pair of red tailed hawks...since my chick got taken, there's been one perched in a tree about 70yds from my property line. This is three days running....and staying just far enough away where they can watch the flock and not alert the roo...when he/she screeches the roos clucks a bit but not a full warning....its a chess game and I need to find a way to discourage these hawks....

Wing:

If you want a hand with some food suggestions...pm me and I can give you the recipes I use....one thing...when you start cooking a lot, you need to have some spices available...its a PIA because you need to have the spices available before you decide to cook something...and it may take some time and $$$ to get everything stocked...my two cents....
