We had 5 chicks hatch and one has a bad leg. Can a chick have spraddle leg on just one of the legs? All the pictures online show it in both legs.

It's the yellow chick. I will try to get better pictures with my camera. My phone isn't the best indoors.

I have large white Muscovy. For whoever it was that mentioned trying to hatch some, let me know if still interested, they can be a difficult breed to hatch, at leastfor me they are...simply because they are always big and have trouble turning in the shell..

CC, iI got duck eggs from your neighbor today, I am gonna go ahead and set them tomorrow, did the one's that you set hatch, just so I have a clue what to expect....

Just drove all the way to Uniontown (about an hour) only for the gates to be closed because the Italian festival is today. The guy at the gate said lots of people were showing up wondering why there wasn't a swap. The website said there was a swap today. Not only did the whole family wake up early so we could drive out, but now 2 hours of my dad's Father's Day (and his gas) was wasted just because someone never changed the website. -_- So mad.

Well, we left then out to free range yesterday for the first time for about an hour. I was nervous the whole time and they kept trying to wander into the woods lol. But they really had a lot of fun and enjoyed flying around and stretching their wings. Little Cookie (oegb) actually flew up on to the roof of the coop to take it all in. The individual pictures are Maple and Chip.

Awesome! Look how happy they are :) I just got my crew yesterday (they're acclimating in the coop currently). I want to let mine free range for a while each day outside of their run, but I live on a very busy high traffic road so I'm thinking a fence needs to go up as a deterrent. I love all the different colors with your chickens, and your roo is absolutely gorgeous!

so now back to the MUDDY SMELLY RUN problem

I am so GRATEFUL to have the sun today! wahoo!

I was wondering what you would think about it I added some

peatmoss to the muddy soupy run?

Wouldn't it absorb some of the water?

what about the stuff you put in your coop to reduce bad smells...........some powdery stuff........
would sprinkling that in the mud pit be at all helpful............or maybe I would have to have such a large amount?

What if I got a bag of sand?

I know its gonna dry a bit but mid week more rain.............I am thinking this is going to be an ongoing problem unless I have a covered run.

At this time the run is still a temporary location until I get the new run done. The new run MUST have a section that is covered for snow, rain, issue!

My main goal right now is to
---dry it up
----reduce the smell
--- reduce any harmful bacteria or other bad stuff that wet and poopy mud might have in it

right now the run smells, there are water puddles, ----its very soupy.

I have let the girls free range because having them in the run < I feel is cruel .
I put 7 1/2 bags of pine bark nuggets in my run yesterday. I spread them out 1-2 inches thick. They spell good, look nice and NO mud anymore. The girls seem to like them. They kept pecking and scratching, in fact more than they did before I put them down.

Very nice!! It is a little nerve racking to let them out...neighbors, dogs..and other issues that may surround...but boy they really enjoy it and it is fun to watch them do "chicken" things..

They developed, but didn't hatch. They were in during my incubator issues. I have no doubt they will hatch, I never did ducks before.

The drakes do their job. I've seen it, lol. They will be mixed, but all look to be good sized. Actually I think they might be good for your purposes, hybrid vigor.
