Hi BYC Community!

One of our sponsors is running a survey to gather helpful information about our members' love of chickens! If you're a current chicken owner, please consider filling out the survey below to help one of our valued sponsors gather information about their customers. Once you fill it out, you'll learn who the survey is for, and be able to sign up to get a coupon for a FREE bag of feed!

Happy Clucking!
The BYC Team
I am glad I hadn't taken the survey! Looks like it was a problem for a lot of people.... Purina dropped the ball big time on this one, I think!

The best laid plans of mice and men......

so, I have two situations going,,,,,first, I expanded the coop and grow out pen to accommodate my outcast orp....she has been living with my 6 young'ins.....and I have been letting the young'ins free range with the main crew....

so, of the young'ins, there is a young roo who will be going away, and three of the girls are not part of the breeding program and can hang in either coop...so, today when I came home in a down pour, I was amazed to see all but one of the young'ins roosting in the main coop and the only one not was the baby roo who is going away....

so, my outcast girl will need 2-3 friends to do the winter and all the young'in have moved out....need to see if its the storm or a flock re-alignment...who knows.....

I'm sure if you let us know what kind of 'friends' you think would be good for your coop/orp there will be plenty of neighborly offers of birds to help keep her company for the winter!

It's unfortunate about the mis-communication because it will cost Purina a lot of good will and the BYC site a lot of their advertising support (maybe). Sounds like they were trying to get some targeted market research and didn't explain who they wanted to participate. If they had said up front "we want anyone with exactly 7 hens and a rooster, and we'll give you free sample feed to participate" (or some such target group), then only the people they wanted would have done the survey and rest of us would have ignored it (as we should).

Someone should have their market research campaign proof read by someone with more common sense. but then common sense is such a rare commodity in the business world, they probably would have had to hire someone to get it. "common" is the ironic part of that phrase.

Sorry everyone but I need to vent :/ had nothing to do with the chickens this time either. So I noticed today that there was some blood on the carpet and was very confused about how it got there. Welll after watching the dogs and looking over them, I found that my husky is bleeding from her gums or tooth way in the back. She's almost 10 and her teeth are rather nasty. I'm feeling really crappy now about not brushing her teeth (though the times I tried she never cooperated). I had to fight with her to even get a good look in her mouth. It came down to my kids holding her down and holding the flashlight while I pried own her mouth and I still didn't get a good look. We really don't have the money for this :( even if it's just that one tooth which would be a miracle. She wasn't even acting any different than usual either. Argh :( I feel horrible for her. I tried to clean it with salt water and she cried. I know it hurts :( There's not even a chance of getting her to the vet until next pay day. .. next Friday. *sigh* I just needed to vent.

I'm sorry... I know it is hard to do... I would google 'home treatments for dog tooth bleeding'. I don't know if human ora-jel would be safe for dogs or not. There may be some online forums with suggestions on methods to clean the teeth and maybe help minimize the inflammation from the irritated gums.
