Mother hen plans a vacation so what does she do...............

Well its summer and there might be a heat wave so

-lots of ice blocks
-empty milk bottles filled with water and frozen

-ice cubes with scratch in them made

-ice cubes with watermelon in it made

-garden hose repairs attempted

- surrogate mother hen trained and provided with written resources of all the little details
--back up helper asked to refresh water in a heat wave...........if in the area...........since they always mess up their water!

- new bigger 3.5 gal waterer purchased and set up in the run.....

- extra chicken food purchased and stored

- cell phone number made available for any remote problem solving assistance

- surrogate mother hen gets to keep all eggs laid while providing care.

- chickens will be restricted to the smaller yet more secure run for the week ( sorry girls but you will be safer)

--coop and run cleaned out a bit

Okay ...............prepped and caregivers trained and equipped...........let the mother hen go away for a week!

Happy Fourth everyone!

One chicken pen empty and cleaned.
I have 10 days with 1 less pen to tend to..
Might not sound like a big deal, but when tending to 9 pens daily, even 1 seems like a lot of extra gained time.

Anybody interested in some of those Muscovy babies, I have way more than I need...

Only 9 pens?

I am looking for empty rectangle talc buckets. This talc is used by farmers when planting corn or soybeans. I am in Lancaster County and would be interested in any that you or someone you know might be glad to be rid of.
