Makes me sad to think she might be in pain. It's encouraging to me to know how much dogs thrive on love. I'm in close contact with several older dogs, they have various illnesses related to getting old, but they are so delighted to be with their families I think it's a good trade for them.

I love dogs and am glad you share your life with one, she's lucky to have your family to be part of.

It's depressing since I know she's in pain she doesn't let me even touch her cheek on the outside of where it hurts (she cries if I do) but she had been letting me do the orajel (she gets a slice of turkey lunch meat every time lol. This has really made me pay attention to our other dogs mouths as well. Rocky is almost 10 1/2 and I checked his teeth over really good. They need brushed but are nothing like hers. Sparkles is 2 1/2. She's going to start getting weekly brushings. She's going to hate me since she's already getting constant eye drops for dry eye and her ears scrubbed out. She has allergies, gluten intolerance, yeast imbalance. .. sigh. I do find it amazing also how they can hide their pain and just be happy to be around their people. Id have never known Dreamy had anything wrong with her if I hadn't seen the blood.

Aurora, Walmart does sell dog aspirin in the pet isle. I paid $8 for a bottle last year. It is for dogs over 25 pounds.

Ok, I'll have to look into that.I would have grabbed some while I was there yesterday if I'd have known about it.

We use regular Baby Aspirin for our dogs... when I had my husky mix, Sadie, I would give her a baby Aspirin every 6 or 8 hours up to a total of 3 a day on bad days for arthritis. She weighed about 60 lbs. I'm sure if you check there is a dosage recommendation chart based on weight though, to give you more accurate dosage amounts.

I did find this article... after reading I would call the vet Monday morning about usage of Aspirin during the week, since she may have surgery on Friday. Aspirin can cause reduced clotting, so may not be a good choice during the week so close to a possible surgery. The vet may be able to recommend an alternative until the appointment.

Anybody interested in some of those Muscovy babies, I have way more than I need...

Very tempting, if only I was so overrun with chickens now. I really want to free range some muscovies to eat bugs. I fear for the hens sitting in secret places and getting eaten by foxes, That seems the ultimate fate of anything we free range (except the big, ugly roos - I suppose they are too onery and tough for the foxes).

What I'm really hoping for is black east indies when yours start laying. I picture my daughter (who loves ducklings) hatching these with my grandsons and working from birth to get them very tame before going to the farm as pets. 
Think that's possible?

Yes, they do seem to tame down with regular contact, mine do not freak out every time I walk past anymore, but they refuse to be picked up.

Guessing with contact from birth they would be different

Hello all, hope everyone is having a wonderful 4th of July weekend!!!
I am 100 posts behind, so just want to put a few pics up of our processed birds from Tuesday...we were so happy with them. The entire process went very well. We have no-issues in doing this,
(cornish X), again next year!! They were dressed at approx: 6-61/2 & 7-71/2 pounds, (1 lb.. difference between the two). We will be getting a more appropriate scale for next time also. We would like better-specific weights.

The entire process went very well. We have no-issues in doing this, (cornish X), again next year!! They were dressed at approx: 6-61/2 & 7-71/2 pounds, (1 lb.. difference between the two). Great job, knew you could do it... I ordered my scales from chefs.com......they have nice little one's that are about the size of a book.......I needed something accurate and the one's I was buying at auctions would not work right.... I have a small one the fits nicely on the counter while packaging..the only down side is it has a 12 pound limit.

These are gorgeous! How old were they? We are on our first year with meat birds, we have them in a hoop coop. Hope mine doesn't decide to fly away! It's not nearly as nice as DHetzels! Mine has much less wood on it and would probably take to the air more readily. Our baby goat girl Eva goes to her new farm today. Boo. We stumbled through tattooing them yesterday, what a mess! I'm sure there is an art to it, I hope one of us picks it up soon.

I'm so impressed with you who do your own processing. I had to help my daddy as a tot and I still can't get the smell outta my nose
Last year I bartered with the Amish. For every 5 of mine they processed - they kept one. It worked out well.
I may need to rethink that though if I start selling the meat. ...
