Got my first egg today from my chickens that hatched in February. My favorite hen laid it too. Wrong place though, right on the back porch in a collapsible storage bag with hay in it. Come to think of it, I'm sure she was just being considerate and laying it on the the back porch, steps away from the kitchen. Ha!

I found an awesome breed yesterday and when I get my own farm, I'm ordering these eggs first. They're bantam double-laced silver barnevelders. They're SOOOO cool.

Did you see those in a poultry magazine? My husband brought one home and they were on the cover! I thought they were pretty also. When i was first looking for another breed, i liked those but had a hard time finding them. I could only find solid black. If you run into any, let us know!

You have such beautiful birds Troyer!! What an amazing hen you have there!
I am hoping for at least 1 chick from my broody. She had 5- broke 1, getting them moved..now 4..so our percentages are going down..but, the eggs are from MotorcycleChick(Marans)...so fingers are crossed!

This heat is getting to the hens..the egg count has been extra low, and with two out of six hens broody...

...yeah, I really want my "laying" hens back! hahaha

this one was enjoying a gnat for an afternoon snack

We also have little brown ones around too...will be interesting to try and figure out who is male/female...
