Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi! We are in north east PA, can we join? This is our first time raising chickens & we are loving it! We started with 3 brown leghorns & 3 white silkies. Then a few weeks later got 6 EE. Now we also have a blue Marans , a bantam mix, 4 lavender orps, & 1 buff Orp. (Chicken math, no one warned us, lol!) We also have 3 khaki cambells. We love the idea of the PA thread, as none of our friends or relatives "get us" keeping & loving chickens. They all kind of Shake their heads & figure we'regoing through a mid life crisis. Lol

Wow that's a lot! What kind of space do you have? That's great!

Welcome! Of course you can join in. Lots of nice, fun people here - and always room for a few more.

You have a nice assortment if chickens and ducks. Did you raise them from chicks?

When he said he would give it a try if he had the info, he meant by the acre, my research shows a heavy seed rate, would need 50 pound bags... Thinking he also meant enough to make it worthwhile for the combine to come in and take it off... I would also need to know how to store this by the ton Could pea's be put in for a overwinter crop, planted in the fall after tobacco comes off, ...these are the things he asked me, and I can not answer.
http://www.territorialseed.com/product/Austrian_Field_Peas_Cover_Crop_Seed Not sure if you're familiar with territorial seed company, but they have a lot of different cover crop options, including field peas. Not sure how the price is, but they have excellent descriptions in their catalogs .
Eeeeee! My first egg. :celebrate My Mac laid it. She was acting kinda funny today. Found her in the nesting box then going from box to box - really restless. Left her alone for a while and found this. She was so proud of herself as I am of her. :love
Congratulations!
I hear that ceramic eggs can do the trick. Wing, they do look like Anconas a bit, but they're not. Best I can remember was 'probably mixes, maybe some purebred in there'. Unfortunately...I forget what breeds they mentioned. I blame the memory loss on my age. They are cute as all get out. Now I know why you people keep these pooping machines.

Howdy from Chester Co,,,,sounds like you've got quite a crew.....and after they shake their heads, they usually ask for eggs, then it seems their only interest in you is how the chooks are doing......

Hi. I am from NEPA too. Welcome

I am going to dump my potato tower tomorrow to see what yield I have..........I have already reached in and pulled out 3 nice looking potatoes.

My QUESTION FOR THIS GROUP= Can I use one of these potatoes to start growing some more between now and the fall?

I figure maybe I might get smaller potatoes...........but there still might be growing time.

they are Yukon gold and they say 85-90 days are needed............

what do you all think?

worst case scenario is I sacrificed one potato to an experiment?

Our main run is 22' x 22'. We are still building our coop & we have 4 smaller coops. Our duck run is 10'x10'. We also are planning on building another run/coop next sping & several chicken tractors. We also have a 6+ car garage that we plan on using some of if need be.

I have a question...I have a hen who lis missing feathers on her head, feathers and right above her tail feathers.. feathers on her wings look as if they are breaking off..noticed today our rooster and another hen pecking at her featherless head...what should I do?
