Blarney,
Ducks + wire bottom cage = sanity..

Ducks do of need the typical brooder, they will take care of themselves from day one...I only provide a heat lamp for 48 hours..

yesterday was first time I gave the chickens treats besides the occasional corn. I gave them left over scrambled eggs from the dogs breakfast in the mornings, then a mix of mealworms and corn in the evening. As soon as I left them out our rooster who has been aggressive has become totally docile and sweet begging for treats! Just like men, food is the key to their hearts ;) ALL the chickens were following me around making the purring noise (at least thats what i call it) while I collected eggs. the rooster was in the coop with me, which is usually disaster. But he was completely calm so I let him in there with me. I am ecstatic! Now we don't have to get rid of him, He's an SS and beautiful! I dont have a current full body shot of him, I have a current close up then a full body of him last summer. He has almost doubled in size since the body pictures were taken.

Is anyone familiar with the chicken swap in Sharpsburg, MD? I was wondering if anyone is aware of any Black Copper Marans that are/will be sold there. I really, really want one!

Never been there, but you should message "ray-from-pa" here on this site, he has BCM's for sale in Robesonia. He hasn't said much on this thread lately - probably got busy with life.
He also advertises on CL, so search that for "black copper marans".

Yay! I found him on CL and saw that he just put up an ad yesterday! Thanks so much for your help :)

I am looking to buying some young hens in 4-5 weeks, after we get back from vacation. Our new big coop will be finished before we leave and I am eager to add to my flock. I am interested in Brahmas, Sussex, Wyandotte and maybe an easter egger or two. Anyone near Pittsburgh , Butler, Indiana, Kittanning areas wanting to sell these breeds or maybe other breeds?

I'm near you but don't have those. :( Have you checked out swaps?

I am interested in Orphingtons also, what do you have? Do you know of any swaps in the area coming up?

What I have is in my signature. Sadly the only thing I have right now is bantam cochin over a RIR/Light Sussex mix eggs. The hen is my best layer. She's 3 years old and still gives me medium (borderline large) brown eggs every day. In a few weeks I'll be able to supply bantam cochins and frizzle serama mixes. In winter I'll start getting guinea and duck eggs.

The next swap is Sunday morning at the Fayette County Fairgrounds starting at sunrise. I get there around 8 though. Stuff is picked over by then, but I really don't need anything.
