Welcome from Schuylkill Haven area
you be funny....i like being off to the left a little....i can see what is around corners tooNormal-----------------I think its just an average of the full range of people out there....................and we all know there are some of us that take things to extremes.....................but them if we statistically average this...................well I imagine many of us are not right in the middle of this ..................................distribution! Also if we all were very similar ...........all in the middle of the curve.............life could become rather boring..................I feel the diversity is often very interesting......................as long as we are not considering the sociopaths at those evil extremes..........that is one part we can all do without!
Hey...awesome to hear you are still the "chicken keeper" at the fair..would love to see that sometime...all the years we lived in the area, never went to see. Definitely missed something good!! PICS-PICS-PICS!!!Just wanted to pop in and say howdy doody and I hope everyone is well! I've been so very busy as Henrietta Fowler the chicken keeper at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire! Hope to share pictures or a video sometime lol
I'm going to the Sharpsburg swap this Saturday instead of faire lol
All sounds awesome!! Does make you feel really good when you look at the cupboard and see what you can do! It is so great to enjoy the fruits of all that work in January...so much better than store bought that is for sure!!Same here! So much jarring happening! My tomatoes all came at the same time. Made salsa (3 kinds), 2 kinds of sauce, pizza sauce and lots of puree! We have tons of pears and apples. Think the apple press is coming out this weekend. Our little one has her cup ready as we are pressing the fruit. Just ordered a steamer juicer this morning so we can do more juice concentrate. Love being self sufficient!
Hey everyone, what should 8 day and 6 six day incubated eggs look like when candled? I tried to candle Cookie and Cloud's eggs tonight with a makeshift candler (toilet paper roll and flashlight with my phone's flash). Most of the eggs are the dark ones so it's really hard to see. They mostly looked like big blobs near the rounded side of the egg. One egg I could definitely see a vein but it was the only one I could see clearly (light green egg). Does this sound about right or does it sound like a bad sign?

by day 10 you should see a dark spot and some veining. I usually candle days 7.10, 14 and 18. Light green egg sounds good, The dark eggs are hard to candle, I would wait until day 10 see if you can see anything. make sure you have a strong flashlight so you can see better.
Candling is more for my curiosity than anything else. Don't discard eggs that you think are not developing, if they are truly bad, the hen will notice and push them out. Dark eggs like Marans and Welsummers are impossible for me to candle until about day 18. When I lock them down, I can tell which ones have no development because the line between chick and air cell is much less distinct. Some light passes through liquid egg, but nothing through a chick's body.
I hope they hatch well for you and your hens. I'm off to pull 4 chicks from the hatcher - this is the most fun part of incubating.
Thanks. My flashlight isn't exactly the best. We have a couple really good LED ones. ... with dead batteries lol. I took the kids out this morning before school and showed them the light green one that we actually could see and then we did a freshly laid silkie egg. They thought it was fascinating (so did I lol). I'm thinking that they're all developing since they almost all had the same dark area. Especially now after checking the fresh egg. I need to go get some batteries lol
