Since the rainy day has allowed a little extra time, I decided to stop in and say Hello..
Hello to all the new names.
Just to let those know that have meat birds ordered, I will be starting those this Saturday and working on that pen for the next 3 weeks, let me know when it suits you for pick up ..717-824-6829.. slim chance of me answering but please leave message..
I also have duck available at $2.50 a pound..I have smaller one's that will be around 3 pounds or I have large Muscovy that will be closer to 8 or 9 pounds, a good chance to try duck meat at a reasonable price..
Will also have a few thanksgiving turkey available.

Thanks! I was wondering about those. I will be calling to set up a time. I will try to mail out those aprons, if I can find them!

good luck with the cold. I'm getting over the one my daughter gave me. It's a rough one. I was completely down and out on Monday which is rare for me. Thankfully hubby took care of me. Try making a tea with 1 tablespoon ground, dried ginger, 2 cloves of garlic, lemon and honey to taste. (Makes a few cups full). I swear it helps. As for the egg production, ours has dropped too. I wasn't expecting it since I had heard the first year, they tend to lay through the winter. We have 13 hens, 2 are broody, 1 isn't laying yet and we're lucky to get 6 or 7 a day right now instead of the 10-12 we were getting.
I'm so sorry. I hope your girl recovers and the other managed to escape and reappears.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think I will. Can't stand the ginger.

I'm sorry about your hens! I lost some of my CX to a raccoon attack about two weeks ago, and it's such a frustrating/sad thing all rolled into one. I hope your hen comes out of it okay.

haha! Sounds like my hubby! When I get the chicks (remember, he was away for the army) he said, I never agreed to 17! Now, just the other day he said "I feel like we don't have enough hens" lol. I swear a month ago I suggested an addition to the coop. The other day he agreed that'll happen in spring

That's how I got my cats! Well, not a backhoe, but a used fishing boat on one and a used hunting rifle on the other. (everyone tells me I got the short end of the stick haha, but I love my animals, and if I have to barter a bit.... c'est la vie

I have a question about raising chicks, The one who made it from our last batch and the two silkies if they hatch in our current batch will be 9/10 weeks December 3rd and my current new batch of eggs will be 9 weeks about December 19th. My question is how cold would be too cold fo these chicks to stay outside in the coop? at 10 weeks could they stay outside if I provided them heat lamp when it got below freezing and if I did gradual daily trips to get them used to it before letting them in over night? Never raised chicks in the winter. It's been 2 years since i've had nay chicks.

I believe this is what my daughter and I are going to have to do in order to get 2 goats. I'm going to have to give in to him getting a big tractor for us to get the goats!

Goats have so many uses, too! And they multiply..... so in the end, you win out lol

Maybe even a couple of miniature sheep. I have to think about what a good offset is for a backhoe, then ask for quite a bit more so I have room to negotiate.
