She really stands out with my crew. Somehow I ended up with all black birds, black and white birds and brown and black birds lol. I'm not allowed to have that list lol. No more chickens for me. (I can hatch out chickens though lol) I think everyone should have an Easter Egger just because the egg color makes me smile

Hubby really loves "his" ducks. He wants an army of ducks eating all the bugs.

It can, but if it is this bad already, you may want to cull it. It is believed that a crossbeak at birth is genetics, wile it showing up at two months or so is an accident after hatching. There is a thread you can read for information/help if the chick is added to your flock. My cross beak lived to lay eggs, but was lost when a helpful DH wasn't so helpful. Lesson learned. Keep the DH away from the coops!

It straightens out when she peeps. I don't know if I could cull a chick. These eggs were from E-bay so not my flocks eggs. These would be my first silkies. There is a second egg from the same buyer. really hope it doesn't have a cross beak, too. YHow do you cull a chick? Just in case its really bad when it comes out..

Sooo...my sis in law has five 6 month Narragansett turkeys.  She'd originally planned on keeping them long term or butchering in a month or so.  But she's now got to get rid of them and is considering posting them on craigslist for somebody else to butcher in a month or two.  Can anybody give us a good starting price to list them for?  And would they be better off sold as a group or individually?

I would send a PM to Wingstone... she raises birds for meat purposes so should have about the best handle on expenses/costs/ going rates for birds.  She usually checks in most days and a PM will get her attention the quickest.

What you can get depends on location and time of the year.....at that age why not just process and keep in freezer, I would hate to put all that time in and then let someone else enjoy that meal....

I would be happy to take a Buff Hen, I can drive to you, I'm only in Bucks County. Let me know! :)

The original post was a bit confusing, but this is a buff duck, not a buff orpington chicken, in case you didn't understand that. Jade doesn't have any chickens and I'm not sure you know your getting a duck if you drive over there.

Surely you can fit in a few chicken with funny looking beaks.

Been meaning to ask if hubby ever took to the ducks, and to think he was hesitant to make the drive for pick up...if you make a nice cozy location, they will go broody in the spring.

Had a birthday this week and hubby could not have done better.
I got a brand new pair of insulated flanned lined jeans, a new car hart 5 pocket coat, full head hat, one of those with jus the eyes sticking out, and new leather gloves....

Guess I have no excuse to go outside now.

LMP.... if there is a large fowl breed that isn't broody I sure haven't found it yet!!!

though honestly, my Barred Rocks are 6 months old now and haven't gone broody yet.... so there may be hope yet!

He ordered an incubator. I want them to raise their own. We shall see what happens. It looks like 4 girls and 4 boys to me. Will the drakes fight in the spring? Do they pick one mate or will everyone mate with everyone? Trying to figure out if I will need to seperate the males.

wow, beautiful birds Stake! ...so, how are CCL's with broodiness?...hey, got to ask to know! hahaha...seriously..i am looking right now., getting to know what is out there and right for me to work with...maybe in the ring to buy later.

LMP:

Here's my opinions on the breed as I know it..... my girls are young (have only been laying for about 6 weeks), they are both on the small side, low ranking, and are skiddish of everything...(one, FF gave me will approach me for a pet, but, she really only feels comfortable with two other birds FF gave me).....I think they do better in a free range environment and the Roos are good protectors...(might be ok in a large pen,,,,I dunno)....

These are my experiences with a couple of chooks...and the fourth line has just been imported from the UK so the genetic pool isn't that big...(you can seem then on the greenfire web site..)

If you get down my way feel free to stop and see them....if all goes well, I'll be hatching a bunch in the spring....
