Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

So I am trying an experiment. In thinking of the long cold winter, I am trying to start some fodder trays for my girls, as a boredom buster and nutritional boost, I had seen an article in my Backwoods Home Magazine that talked about making fodder trays for ruminants. I thought I definitely could do it on a smaller scale for my poultry peeps.

My test run is going well. I have two trays, the top one has the seed in it, with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage. I am simply soaking the seeds about twice a day and then letting them drain. I am just using scratch grains because of the cheap cost and safety. Here is a picture of the tray, and a close up where you can see them starting to sprout. If I continue with this,I will definitely need a couple more trays to keep up with demand. These trays are fish transport trays from the grocery store, they are several years old bu are fantastic!

...We were also thinking of doing this..especially when the rabbits become a member of the yard-family.
easy enough to do..just have to have the space..and light...

We got them from a family member who worked at a grocery store years ago. A friend who used to work in a seafood dept said to ask the Manager of the seafood dept. if they could order you a few trays. Good luck! I suppose you could do the same with some shallow Rubbermaid type boxes too.
