So tired . . .  but the new coop is almost finished!!
it is 12 x 24, so it can hold lots of chickens. Still needs a few small things, but I anticipate moving birds in there next weekend. Wish I had some pics, but I was just too tired to find the camera, then it got dark so early.

We will let you slide on the pics, daylight went fast today.

I can't imagine waking up without hearing crowing. It's just something that we're all used to around here.

LMP... it will depend what you want to do with the rabbits, I plan on trying to keep and tan some of the pelts, if that works out I will be looking for other breeds.
The Californian rabbits that we got from ray are doing great, they are well on their way to their second litter, she had 10 the first time around and nursed them all into healthy rabbits..
You will need to decide what all you want to do... my daughter does lots of crafts and would like to try working with the furs, .you know me, I prefer not to waste anything so if I can use that fur it makes a difference
Check out some of the Facebook groups for backyard rabbits, they have quite a few of them.

I refuse to use icy hot or bengay....my mind remembers those smells coming from the old people....I am sure some of you know what I mean..

I know what you mean, but, umm, we are the old people now. I said WE, not you!

My friend has been using copper compression globes at night. You know her deal. Seems to be of some relief. Probably getting a couple more pair to wear during the day as well. They are around $13, when in sale at boscovs.

She was a pirate, lost her head gear somewhere..hahaha She is gonna love the bunnies this spring!! Oh, i do have a question for **ChickiesChick..or **Wing, what breed of rabbit are you using right now?..i have started the in-depth research mode of this project...so the questions may come a little more frequently..heehee, ...thank you so much, i do appreciate everything!

Californian, new Zealand, champagne d'argent, and a mix of new Zealand and something. And I cross between all of them. Generally people want white hides if you go that route since they can be dyed any color.

i think i stole it from you , it fit me to a tee and i loved it.
yeah i understand about the smell, but there have been times that its become my perfume of the day, not to mention the week or so, if it makes me quite hurting, i don't care what i smell like and i am getting old

....and they lay golden eggs... .....just had to...MC isn't here to pick on before chickens..i will admit we used poison, didn't like doing it. Knowing that hawks and other animals are around....the older neighbor lady was unfortunately losing her cognition..she would feed the "birds".. ..was more like cats and vermin..anyway..the rats were out of control, seriously. They were very bold. With the girls being little, we had to get it under control, plus it just gave us the heeby-jeebies watching them run around during the day.... Now..the issue is not an issue, the neighbor is not there anymore, so no food source and when we get a critter..the trap is usually all that is necessary..we have found that any trap that is set does best with peanut butter and it lasts longer without drying out too bad like other baits...if they make an appearance during the day, the pellet-gun does the trick too...can i say that on here? ..i hope so...My dad had a great "mouser" dog when he was a kid on the farm...the cats just got into the milk..hahaha..Caesar has/had let us know we had a mouse in the mouse(hasn't been one here for awhile since), ...funny to watch him go on alert and hunt..a hunting pomeranian..now there is an idea!! They have the most fantastic noses!!..and hearing, even if there is a noise or not

I'm sure when the do lay, their eggs WILL be golden! After all I got them from a reputable source... Free on Craigslist...

it is more because of the neighbors..we are closer than we would like to be obviously..we wouldn't HAVE ot keep rooster form crowing, BUT..you know how it goes...this is only our 2nd year back to the house and A LOT has changed, so..we would like to try to keep things as amicable as possible....just wondered if anyone has/had used this device before..if it really cuts the sound down..and as far as the hens crowing.. well, they do go "OFF" when sounding that "get that egg outta here" song...if we could keep the rooster UNDER that noise, that would be workable and I would be able to BREED!..see, this is MY end for all this okay....I want to BREED my own birds, so i may have what i want/need..when i want/need..I am totally sure you all here understand that little beast with-in... That whole hand warmer thing sounds very nice...you should really look into a hand wax warmer..i am not foolin' Wing...had it in the salon and it is like magic, for all those with bad-arthritic hands/wrists...brought it into the house...sometimes it can be the only thing that gets the fingers open...it is so nice. sharron..love the avatar!!..hahaha..i had tried that stuff with the "natural" chemical..omgosh...i am very sensitive to that & will never be using it again!!..had a chemical-like burn for awhile, it was not nice. hahaha..see this is what i was afraid of., you like getting me into trouble?@! ...that is not what i meant.. ..i was one a thread...i think the marans ..not completely sure, but anyway...someone had stated that they have had Silkies for a long time and compared to the other breeds they had , well, the silkies were not the brightest bulbs...and a bunch of others agreed. I should have said.."don't shoot the repeater"....that is what i should have said..I have NOTHING against Slikies...omgosh..now i am gonna hafta go away for awhile just so people don't hurt me....hahhaha, you all know i am only joking anyway...what the heck do I know about silkies?! geesh, i am not against any bird.,....i have had my birds..wyandottes and Marans for only 2 years now..I am in NO WAY an expert in anything...but i do read quite a bit I am So sorry to hear about the losses from your 4-H leader..that is truly awful!!

I'm new to Silkies, but they definitely are a bit slower to catch on than my other chickens. I wonder how much of that is caution because they can't see well. I will definitely trim their litte pompadours in summer if I still have them. The one buff one has more long "streamer like projections" coming off of his head, so it's not looking good. I'm trying to convince my Aunt she needs them. The enabling continues.....

Bob 'was' a Barred Holland, we held on to him even after he was aggressive toward people - a mistake I have not made since.

Already have 2 hoop coops full of chickens to go in there. It will be filled to capacity from day 1. I believe in "just in time" coop building, LOL. This past weekend was cutting it pretty close, I think "the time" was a week ago. Hope this week is better for the poor chickens in those exposed hoop houses. I did prop as much as I could find around the coops to cut the winds, but the wind was still pretty horrific. On the plus side, we are getting our first eggs from msladyhawke's Barred Hollands.

I need to get some good pics once they get in there and do a bit of an inventory I what we have for layers.

Anyone have any advice about using fallen leaves for bedding? I have access to a *lot* if I want them. I'm definitely filling the runs with them to cut back on the exposed mud, but what about inside the coop?
