Yes they do. Muscovy ducks have huge poops too. My hubby thinks my chickens must be part horse since they make big poops lol

Lol, sometimes I think I see a rock and nope, it just a huge poop from the girls. :ep

Turkeys have much bigger poops but I agree our muscovey ducks poo like people. It's disturbing how large they go.

My pap always told me boy turkeys are jakes until they breed, then their toms. Girls are jennies. I've always referred to them that way. Could be wrong but it's a childhood memory I cherish from before he sold his farm.

Cool, thanks for the info!

Just an FYI...troyer is just around the corner from shady maple.. we all know he raises some beauties...

Aha! I thank you!

One time I was gathering eggs in the dark and I grabbed what I thought was an egg. Nope, it was a big poop.

I'm so excited! My orpingtons have started laying!!!!
Now I'm even more hyped up to get me another incubator and start hatching as the eggs wont freeze in the coops!!!

I also now am the proudish mama to 3 Freedom Ranger Pullets. The plan is to breed them to both a white rock cock or an orpington cock to see what produces. The goal is to create a self sustaining meat flock.
I am interested in your thoughts on if I should start with the White Rock or the Orpington. Since I only have 3 of the girls they are going to stay with the same roo until those babies grow up to laying age. Then I will switch the girls to the other breed's roo.

lol that's funny! I was doing the same once, reaching for eggs at night and scared myself to death when I grabbed one of my hens. I did NOT expect anyone in there. It was early and still dark and I was half asleep lol. I don't think she appreciated the interruption.

Aurora, I did have Bourbon Reds. Really wishing I had stayed home and farmed. I just left the house about an hour ago. There is a 34# BBW sitting at my feet. I told dh I would get a turkey in the cab of the truck! He may be dead, but I still win!!
We are making a lot of jokes about riding around with him in the truck. Since this company only allows one day for Christmas, we had to figure out how to get the turkey to Ohio. We happen to be getting through.
Back to the bourbons, we are wishing we still had them. At least one in the freezer. Their meat sounds like it would be sooo good!

I have a place near me that has both bourbon reds and naragansetts. I have no Idea what he's going to charge for them next year..... his Naragansett Tom took best of breed at Ohio.

I too am considering turkeys. I'm torn between a pair of heritage to raise for meat, to just keep getting double breasted market turkeys each year, or both. I think I am going to put out some feelers and see what kind of interest there is market wise....

So I've been looking it up and I think I want to get heritage bourbon red turkeys. Does anyone here have them? I'm looking for hatching eggs or poults. Probably in January.

There is a breeder near me. I think he is around Middletown.

Going to be tough getting local eggs in January or February. To my knowledge, they don't really start to lay until spring. Honestly, eggs hatched the beginning of May will be processing size for thanksgiving. They probably won't last until the next year. There is also someone between Lancaster and Philly that has them. I got some from them on eBay last year.

What kind of orpingtons do you have?
