I have a question...
I am doing everything possible to help these chickens get into the egg-laying mood..hahaha, but nothing is happening..
Am i just an impatient egg-waiter, or is there something else i could do???....we haven't had eggs for, well..months(October)..and Ginger, she hasn't layed since ..what?...June?! ..IDK anymore.....

No- i am not giving extra light or heat, they are o-natural when it comes to that...is there anything maybe diet wise that i am missing??...
i am truly at as loss here..and DH is getting very impatient with Ginger....would like to keep her around for at least another year..but i am frustrated too..

I agree with Stake, this hawk will get brave and just walk right in eventually, I get a small hawk every year no bigger than a small leghorn hen, by it makes itself at home and walks the pen's as if it belongs, I get rather close before I even realize what it is. It is not afraid of me either....the one I get is a gray color I believe it is a coopers hawk.

LMP
How old were those hen's when you got them and I forget the breeds......you could always tell Todd that they need a rooster to stimulate the mood...that does seem like a long time to not lay any eggs.

they are wyandottes (4)..and I got them & aprox 6 months old. This is their 2nd winter.
I also have three Marans, chicka is molting intensely - this is her 2nd winter. & they other two are about 5 months old...
Last year they (wyandottes & chicka) turned off for a time , but not like this.
And that whole thing with Ginger is nuts!! She was broody forever..then not, & now she is just stuck like.."okay, i am healthy, but because you didn't give me eggs to sit on..i am not laying for you!"..
IDK..i am really at a loss

Yesterday hubby brought home a bunch of pumpkins he scored for free! I gave the girls some fresh pumpkin today. They were enjoying it today. Hopefully it will keep them busy for awhile!

Ha! Ratatouille is the movie of choice at our home too! 24 yr old is dating a chef and they are 'foodies' not sure how that translates into a Disney movie but they say their motivation is food based.

Perhaps your girls need a worming, I've also heard of people adding hot pepper seed to stimulate laying.

*waves* I'm still around, just been busy at work. 100 hrs in the last ten days.

Hawks are always around. I think I've lost a few to them, just never see the evidence.

Barely have time to feed, water, and sleep. Hopefully things will allow down soon!

they were wormed...also had a good bit of pumpkin to help that out....been keeping an eye on the poop, nothing abnormal...very normal..and added extra ACV to the FF mix....maybe I will try the hot-peppers seeds...will try just about anything at this point..

**Wing- DH is totally into getting a rooster..just not till spring...one less mouth over the winter...I need to get onto Peaky's list too, i keep forgetting to send her a message..

Anne:

That sounds like the type I encountered the other day....a smaller type....very stubborn....given more time, the hawk would've tried to go under the  pine tree or to scare one enough to make one run and pounce on it....

That's it exactly, have to look that one up tonight.

sorry to hear this:hugs ...i don't know how much it "takes" to start symptoms, but from what i had thought/read about onions and dogs, it is one of those foods that "builds" in the system..that disturbances don't happen overnight, but it takes time...sometimes years....if in smaller bits & pieces, like when you chop onions & a piece falls to the floor. Unfortunately, the mix between the deep fried coating & the onions may be something or the start of something...:fl hopefully, your pup will just have a little potty issue. I really hope everything works out Anne:hugs
thank goodness they were able to hide!! Awesome they found that place..

So far the dog is okay, I'm sure she will be okay, but I will be watching.... Thanks! Yes, they are smart sometimes!

After I read this, I had this terrible image of a shaking a chicken until an egg fell out. Have you tried that yet? :lau

Thanks, I will be keeping a close eye out for these naughty Raptors.

Every trash day, I'm looking to see if any are tossed in the trash. I got one large one so far! Pumpkin for the girls, roasted pumpkin seeds for me!
