Woke up this morning to the sound of cheeping in the incubator. My first ever CCL chick made it safely out of the egg. I couldn't tell the gender yet, but I'm very excited and now I know for sure the parents are fertile.

I hope some siblings make it out while I'm at work.

It is such a bummer when one of your young promising hen's crow at you.:barnie

:(. What kind of hen was it supposed to be?

I would be doing a lot of grilling to avoid takeout food.

We are trying to avoid it, but we don't have even countertops, or a sink or a prep area. Maybe I need to study SilkieSensation's habits...

Congratulations! I imagine it's going to be very hard staying at work! My eggs are due to hatch the day or so after Christmas, and thankfully, I won't be working.... :D

@AnneInTheBurbsIf you have a crockpot, electric skillet, toaster oven, electric grill, hot plate or electric roaster pan then you can do it. PM me for creative ways to use any of these. Plus, there's also an open fire & aluminum foil if all else fails.

We didn't have a functioning kitchen for 4 years. Took the sledge hammer to the old one, ready to remodel, and middle child came down with major illness that took all our remodel money. So, I learned to cook in the toaster oven, electric frying pan, microwave, crock pots, and the old roaster oven that I still use for holiday birds. It's amazing what you can do when you need to. We had folding tables set up for counters. Not ideal, but it worked.

Getting about 2 eggs a day. Hope the longer days soon encourage the girls to start producing again. I did find a heated water bowl for them at TSC.
