Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Today, hubby fed the chickens for the first time in quite a while. When he came in, he told me that he was really confused. He saw a chicken out there that he didn't recognize AT ALL. It took him a few minutes to realize that no, I didn't sneak any new ones in there. It was one of the 11 week olds. He couldn't believe how big they'd gotten already lol. Speaking of which, they are starting to get their adult voices. They're somewhere in between a sqwauk and peep and at least one of the boys has started crowing I just don't know which one. I also moved Midnight and her crew into the main coop today. I've been letting them free range at the same time as the main flock as much as I can and everyone seems to be letting each other alone. Once I saw them follow her inside the main run, I figured it was time. So I put Midnight, her 3 babies, a bowl of food, and a water dish in the coop. They seem content so far. I figure when they get brave enough, they'll come out of the coop. I was going to wait until after Christmas to move them but it just felt right today.

@AnneInTheBurbsIf you have a crockpot, electric skillet, toaster oven, electric grill, hot plate or electric roaster pan then you can do it. PM me for creative ways to use any of these. Plus, there's also an open fire & aluminum foil if all else fails.

I have an electric skillet, microwave, toaster and toaster oven. We are not doing too bad considering. I think I miss my sink most of all though!

We didn't have a functioning kitchen for 4 years. Took the sledge hammer to the old one, ready to remodel, and middle child came down with major illness that took all our remodel money. So, I learned to cook in the toaster oven, electric frying pan, microwave, crock pots, and the old roaster oven that I still use for holiday birds. It's amazing what you can do when you need to. We had folding tables set up for counters. Not ideal, but it worked.

Getting about 2 eggs a day. Hope the longer days soon encourage the girls to start producing again. I did find a heated water bowl for them at TSC.

That's amazing! You do what you have to though. I am getting about 2 eggs every other day. What time of year do you guys usually see an increase in egg production ?

Congratulations! I imagine it's going to be very hard staying at work! My eggs are due to hatch the day or so after Christmas, and thankfully, I won't be working....

I was extra, extra glad to be home after a difficult day at work and then finding 3 CCL chicks waiting for me. Looks like a trio, but they aren't all the way dried and I've called Rhodebars wrong before until they are fluffy. Hoping for pullets of course. I really like our adult pullets, they are the most naturally friendly of all the chickens. Still not "turkey friendly", but very nice for a chicken.

No sink here either. 5 gal bucket for cold water, electric roaster pan or big kettle on hotplate for hot water, large bowl to do dishes in, dump dirty dishwater in another bucket & toss out back door. We have a seashell shaped kiddie pool for the shower base at the moment...lol

Please excuse the mess. My daughter is supposed to be washing dishes in the bowl at the edge of the table. Hot plate is on the left, toaster oven on the right, roaster pan of hot water in the back. Big kettle is heating shower water. The blue tank in top left corner is the pressure tank for the well & has a garden hose with spray nozzle attached that my daughter is getting water from in the pic.

This is the rest of the kitchen & back door. Bathroom is to the right.

This is the bathroom. Until I can get plumbing installed, we are making do with this. Porta potty & a kiddie pool...lol

Forgot to add, canned & dry goods are on shelves behind fridge & there are jugs of water stored under table along with clean dishes, crockpot, grill, electric skillet & a small set of plastic drawers to hold towels, dishrags, utensils & wraps.

..so far that is 2 eggs in the last 3 days...I am 99% positive that the girl getting her egg-act back together is Cordon...so cool!! Hopefully the others will take a class from her and get with the program!

It is amazing what we can accomplish with just what we have at that moment...lots of good food comes from absolutely no planning & impromptu cookware!

Congrats! Please get some pics when you can!

@SilkieSensation You win, you are definitely more of a trooper than I want to be at this point. I do really enjoy a nice hot shower and bath. Good luck on your progress!
