:th Yeah, I'm currently getting 0 from 7 girls... :lau

The guineas have been mating like CRAZY these past few days, and I've never seen them mate before. This means eggs within the next few weeks, right?

Do guineas start laying this time of year? I was not expecting any eggs from them until late winter. Maybe I need to make a nest box in there too. I haven't seen them mating, but honestly I don't spend much time there, the noise is awful.

Not usually. Since mine were raised by a broody hen in a flock of all chickens, I've heard of them laying before and into their first winter like a chicken their age would.

Blarney, are these your goats? I saw them on twitter, thought they looked like yours/a picture you'd take...

Wow! I wish! What a whole lotta sweetness in those pics.

I've tried everything I can think of, stuff I've read on here and in books and have gotten no eggs in weeks. Starting to think my old girls have quit and my Jersey giants and orpingtons aren't mature enough yet. Any suggestions? Store bought eggs just don't
taste the same. Starting to think I need to find a couple laying hens and sneak them in the coop while my hubbys at work.

My Orpingtons have never been good layers, I rarely get eggs from them in the winter. We are adding red sex links this spring.

Oh yeah! I love knowing more light is on the way!

X2 - even if it's only a psychological thing. Did you know that the earliest sunset of the year was back on 12/8? The sunrise was earlier, so those days were technically longer than 12/21, but sunset is more important to me because that defines how much daylight I have when I'm desperately racing the sun to get things done. Yesterday I was making one last round to make sure everyone was ok before it got too dark to see and I found a turkey egg. They had not laid for a few days and I checked several times during the day to see if they had laid another egg, and they finally rewarded me just before dark.
