I love showing off my birds, especially to people who never get to see them. Today, my daughter's friend from dance came up to our house to visit for the first time. Impressive since it's about a 40 minute drive but she and her mom have been wanting to come up to visit for a while to see the chickens. We were out there for a while and they were petting them and holding them and giving them treats. They absolutely loved them and thought they were so fascinating and sweet

they love animals and her mom does a lot with dog rescue. They're actually vegetarian, they love animals so much. They do know that we raise them for meat, eggs, and company but that doesn't bother them. She told me once that she believes that anyone who eats meat should know the animal that they eat. Just wanted to share. I introduced some city friends to the joy of chickens

Great job!! You may have just created a 'chicken convert'!

Do you have any pics of these grown up ?
I know I have some pics of my original pair (came from wingstone last March), but they are not on my work computer, so I'll have to go search my home computer tonight. I need to get more pics of all the birds, it just seems more urgent to give them treats sometimes (and they agree).

Isn't it so disappointing when you hatch out a mix who feathers in so beautiful and looks to be a gorgeous young pullet and then decides to grow in nice, long, and pointy saddle feathers :( my stunning looking little Pebbles had decided she's a he.

Thanks! I emailed them to see if they are still available. I drive by their town every work day, and we sure need cartons now.

Today I gathered 68 eggs! Not kidding about needing the cartons.
I think a few might have actually been laid on Monday, but 5 dozen a day is a very good thing. Of course I kept about 30 for hatching ;)

Also, some of the kids playing in the hay in the barn found a nest with 16 eggs. I replaced them with a golf ball and will keep checking there for free range eggs.

Hope you get them, sounds like you could use them!

Aw, that stinks. I'm hoping at least one of the chicks I hatched is a pullet.
