So, when I went to bed last night, thete were 4 babies in the 'bator. I woke up this morning at 4:45 and they're were 6. Now it's almost 7:30 and I'm up to 11! They are just popping out fast!

5 BCM

So I am a little north of Pittsburgh, and my lovely and courageous daughter is recovering from a serious illness. I want to take the leap into chicken ownership again. Once I get my coop and run, is there anyone nearby where I could buy some pullets? Doesn't really matter what breed, although my daughter thinks silkies are cute... I am thinking of 5 chickens to start (and I am going to resist chicken math). Of course, still have to convince hubby, but I guess I could be like Alaskan and hide the coop in the woods...

There is no resisting chicken math....

Just got home. 10 chicks out and 13 working on there escapes , 1 of my brown eggs was a brahma egg yay heres a pic from earlier 5 were out

ok. I just walked in and got to see the first BCM pop out of the shell I have the light off in there but they're in there peeping like crazy. I don't think they like the dark lol

My chicks are 5 weeks old and still go nuts when the lights go out!

where is the best place to buy my harder to find seeds,(like the artichoke).  they need to take paypal.
any suggesstions on starting them indoors, I never bothered I just always bought plants, but I think these might be hard to find around here..
may or may not work out, never know till I try...

If you don't mind using cash....

Go up to the hardware store and ask for Rohrers seed catalog, they have them for free. Rohrers seeks an amazing amount of seed, you can always go down to Smoketown at their store for what the local stores don't carry and use cash to buy them. Everything from herbs and flowers to farm seed.

That seller on eBay doesn't have chuckar, only cots.

I had an opportunity where only one egg was just barely pipped besides one rhodebar that I had been watching since yesterday that looked like it was getting sticky chick. I got everyone that was hatched out and into the brooder...13 so far. I also gathered up the sticky rhodebar and helped to get it out. It wasn't too bad yet but I did have to wet the poor little thing down as I was pulling off the shell and peel hard prices of membrane from its feathers. I'm not sure I got it all but for now, he/she is hanging in the incubator, encouraging the rest of the eggs
