200 meaties going in monday....I have added a few things this year so even when they can not be out for foraging they will still have grasses from fodder trays..(hawks and coyote are making it harder to let anything out..

because of some added cost the price will be a little higher this year..

contact me if you would like put on the list and remember I need a size that you are looking for, do you want smaller single serve birds, do you want smaller halves for the grill or whole 5 to 6 pound birds..

these are still raised with no added chemicals or medication,. drug free chicken

I've thought of a hoop run using PVC conduit, 2x4 welded wire and wire ties. Rebar driven in the ground to anchor sides. Just not sure how to finish the ends.

Perhaps not the strongest thing, but would probably discourage a lot of things. Not sure how persistent the coyotes are around here. Definitely would work for hawks.

This is similar to the hoop houses I made for growout last summer, just not portable. If you are going to tarp over part, make sure it is anchored for when the wind gets under the tarp and starts lifting.
Pieces of wire last better than plastic ties, lengths of old electical wire are great for this, flexible and the copper never rusts.
Be sure to add battan boards going between the PVC conduit hoops to hold them at fixed distances, the welded wore is not stiff enough for this purpose.

All from lessons learned last year.

Bob, there are many factors that determine the number of eggs.
Days are still short, the age and breed of chicken, and the amount of calcium they are getting. Give calcium free choice. The calcium in the feed is good, but not adequate.

Looks like the time has come. I think this weekend, the 4 extra boys are heading to freezer camp. They've been big enough for a while now but it's been WAY to cold. Now, two of the boys have decided they're no longer friends and are starting to fight. I think now that the rest of the flock gets to free range again, and the girls are flaunting themselves in front of them, they're getting all agitated and stressed. I swear, you can almost hear the cat calls coming from that pen lol
