At least 10 so far and those are only the ones that have been in at least a week. The 6 that have been in for almost 2 weeks are moving and grooving! The other 4 have only been in about a week and there's nothing to see but a couple veins. Still 6 more that I can't even attempt to candle until the weekend. I'm getting very excited! Hubby and I need to get busy building our turkey house and run lol.

My limited experience: turkey fly much better than chickens, especially heritage breed. If you plan a run, cover it or they'll be roosting in trees.

That said, they are very friendly. Mine used to fly out of the run and come down to the house waiting to be fed. Then they would just lead me back to the run and wait for me to open the gate. Not sure why I bothered with the gate. Or the run. Or the coop. They never used it. I hope some of mine hatch. I loved their personality.

good luck on your hatch! Mine will all be heritage breeds and we definitely plan to cover the run. We will be letting them free range too though, so hopefully they get into the habit of using their coop and run lol

Maybe you'll get the other sex. I don't even know what a pilgrim goose looks like. Are they a meat bird? I can't imagine keeping geese, although if they graze, they could keep my field trimmed. Or my "lawn", aka weed collection.

I am gonna wait till next week to send eggs to silkie, give the new boys time to settle in and start doing what nature intended..

I have no idea what to expect from the geese, new adventure

Hi everyone! I finished building an enclosed run this weekend (picture below) and moved my three (approx. 7 weeks old) chicks outside to their new home as of last night. After some initial protesting, they seemed to settle in just fine. They stayed inside during the rain this morning, but are outside in the run now enjoying some sunshine.

The forecast is showing the possibility of severe storms tonight (I just got a weather alert email about a tornado watch!), so I am a bit nervous for the chicks. Do you think I should lock them up before the storm hits?

Thanks for any advice.

Looks great! I would definitely lock em in before it even hits.

Nice coop and run...a bit small as I know you will want more shortly....but, it took my birds a year to show the good sense to stay in the coop during extreme weather...if a tornado shows up...well, all bets are off one way or the other....my two cents....
