Yes we have thought about doing the prawns. A little at a time. Hubby wants prawns the size of his hand lol He has been looking into it and finding ways to improve our setup and system.

I finished building an enclosed run this weekend (picture below)[/COLOR] [COLOR=333333]and moved my three (approx. 7 weeks old) chicks outside to their new home as of last night. After some initial protesting, they seemed to settle in just fine. They stayed inside during the rain this morning, but are outside in the run now enjoying some sunshine.[/COLOR] [COLOR=333333]The forecast is showing the possibility of severe storms tonight (I just got a weather alert email about a tornado watch!), so I am a bit nervous for the chicks. Well today our 10 chicks are 2 weeks old. The seem to be thriving. Working on getting them used to less light at night and teaching them to use a watering nipple. They are loosingtheir fuzz and are feathering out gradually. The Coop and run are just about ready.

coop looks great! I've been very proud of my babies (they're a week and a half old). I cover their brooder every evening and turn out the light. They're wonderful at just cuddling up and going to sleep. The little cuddle puddles they make are so cute! It helps that Mocha is still taking care of them and teaching them what little she knows of life (she's 5 weeks old).

Listening to the storm out there, brought Bella inside and the youngest into our bedroom in case we need to head into the basement. I thought it would pass us by... Doesn't sound like it, hope you all are staying safe!

Little more advice needed for the little goslings ( I think that is what they would be called)
I thought I had 2 little boys because of the yellow under color, but two little girls will be good also.

Is it OK if they eat a 24% starter feed for now
That starter is a base mix for my other feed, when can they have the mix with the seeds in it. ( the meat birds get started on the mix at 1 week old )
Are they always friendly, talkative and just plain nosey, or do I have rejects.

Just covering the basics, I gotta admit this worries me, I have never met any friendly geese.

Don't worry Wing, you got this. Sarasweatman's got a couple and they follow her like puppies. She says they're her favorites. (Although she has no males...)

On, I'll try to clarify.

I can, as in put the meat in jars and process in a pressure canner.

Some pressure cookers are meant only for cooking. Pressure canners are designed for processing meats and produce in jars under pressure. Most may also be used to pressure cook food for immediate consumption.

Pressure cooking tough cuts of meat tenderizes them to some extent. Processing them in a pressure canner also tenderizes them to an extent, although most meats I process that way end up getting shredded later and used for soups and stews as well as chicken salad and such.

I tried cooking an old rooster in a smoker once and it was inedible. If I have tough or old meat, the only way i like it is cooked low and slow with moisture or pressure cooked to break apart the connective tissue and muscle.

sometimes my girls sound like they are laughing...i know it sounds ridiculous, but today..when i was moving a little bit of dirt..Cordon was making that "chuckle" noise...then there is Chicka who sounds like she is growling all the time...

...maybe a "purring" to kinda answer your question...

For those who might be wondering how my adventure into the tilapia is going, it is going very well. The tliapia have grown very nicely over the winter inside.

That is totally awesome Barbie!!! I am impressed!...I can see it now.."Tilapia and micro greens wrap on the menu!"

Hope you and your are safe Blarney!!..We had some winds..lots of thunder, a bit of lightning..but nothing like some others are having...Hope all are doing well and are safe tonight!
These mountains here really help to keep us protected, majority of the time..they help to break things up a bit before it hits...sometimes though, we can get some real " go to the basement" storms!
