Our meaties do pretty well also, we give them as much room as we can and mix in other breed youngsters which help teach them how to act like chickens, they do get very cumbersome though the last week or two. I have 2 hens I am hoping stay smaller....

And we are just a very verbally prolific group!! LOL keeping up isn't required but it gets easier as time goes on.
 
Need some advice.

So I want to transition my 2 week chicks over to chicken nipple waterers. Frequent changing and cleaning of the waters fouled with shavings, poop and feed is no fun. Should I just remove the other waterers when I hang the nipple waterers? I'm worried about our chicks learning how to use the nipple waterers and more importantly getting enough to drink. Please advise...

No barging in here, it's all up for discussion!

This is a terrible picture, but the puller I got originally as an egg from Troyer has decided to roost in a branch above the chicken coop. This branch is at least 6' from the ground, I'm 5'7" and its above my head. She's still trying to fit in with the big girls....

i haven't used these before ..want to go that way out in the coop, at least for the warmer weather here..anyway...couldn't you just show them and put there beaks to it ..kinda like you do to show them the other waterer?..IDK..just throwing a thought out there..hope it works for you..chickens pick things up fast..i am sure you won't have to much of an issue...

I was never able to get older chicks to switch. Maybe starting young is the answer

the house behind the bushes you are seeing, no-one is living there right now. The son of the woman comes up maybe once a week and "plays" with his welder stuff..makes noise, keeps up the yard-mows, airs-out the house..but is fine none the less.
only other neighbors are to our right..they are fine. They have quite a few dogs..so no issue with my birds...and I give them veggies and eggs sooo..yeah, they are okay too.
those birds are saving me a lot of work! no-doubt about that..hahaha

don't forget to start basil this year, mine are coming up pretty nice, two kinds this year, won't be long before i have to transplant

that is funny...
you know what else is..i got a call from our neighbors with the dogs last night at 10pm..she said there was a rooster on their front porch that scared the crap out of her husband and their dogs..everyone went helter-skelter...so, i told her..well, i don't have a rooster, but i will still do a head count on mine in the coop to make sure no-one did a houdini on me at bed time...so, went out ...no birds and all was quiet again....today...watched my neighbor with ALL the animals use one of her cattle dogs to "round-up" this rouge rooster..across the street and into another neighbors bushes where she was finally able to catch him...hahaha, sorry , i didn't get video or pics..but it was entertaining for awhile, for sure!!!..hahaha

I've started some at a younger age like that before. I keep both waterers in for about a week or so. Definitely show it to each one of them and put their beak against it. By the end of the week, they should be pecking at it on their own and using it. Then just remove the other waterer and they'll be using it.

My last group that I added to the main coop had never used nipple waters before that and caught on right away just by watching the older birds do it. All I did was show it to them and let them figure it out.
