Help! We were out all day (dentist appointments down in the city) and just got home and went out back to feed the birds & rabbits. As I walked down the back steps I saw that one of the turkey poults had just gotten into the chicken run and the hens were attacking! Thank goodness it was just happening, because if I hadn't been there to stop it, I'm sure they would have killed the poult. The back of its head is bloody like the skin was ripped off but they only went after the back of the head so there aren't any internal/deep injuries. I have to run my daughter somewhere in a couple minutes and I'm going to stop by TSC on my way home. What should I get? Blu-kote? Anything else? I've never had to deal with an injury like this before.
*And yeah... introductions are the pits, these guys are obviously not ready to be together yet!
I just do basic first aid type wound care, wash with warm, soapy water to remove any debris, look closely for bleeding or visible bone (so you have a good handle on it's exact severity) and then you can lightly coat edges with triple antibiotic (without the pain relief) if you want or just spray with blu-kot. there are other topical sprays available at tsc which are similar to the blu-kot but I am not familiar with it so can't comment.Help! The free ones? I asked about those![]()
No one, no one has self control.![]()
Haha yeah! Those ones. I think I'm going to start hatching more for swaps and stuff. I didn't know people would even be interested in them.
Also that whole thing today was really cool. It's nice to see a bunch of people all interested in farm stuff come together for a local event. Everyone was really friendly.
I just put another 60 eggs (21 turkey, 39 chicken) in the bator. That still leaves me an entire drawer empty & most of the hatching tray empty. Apparently I need more birds. These can't keep up with my new bator.![]()
