Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Wing, Stake and Fisherlady. I just got these birds! At least let me finish naming them before I get more!
BTW, I think the roo is Meat Loaf, there is a Reba (the mostly red) Sheryl Crow is the one that has cool markings, and some black on the top of her head. It's either go with musicians, or have a; Bear, Panhead, Knucklehead, Flathead, Shovelhead, Electra Glide and Hydra Glide.

Question!!! I have to silkie Roos! (I know this cause they both crow and both have you know mated with my 3 silkie hens). Ok so now I have been seeing one of the Roos mating with the other roo!!

Well:

#3 has arrived under the broody.....I only placed x4 eggs under her but checked after a week and there was a dozen....so, I have no idea how many more may have over the next few days....hoping for a lav Orp mix.....(maybe too much to ask for though)....

my tally's are:

x6 6wk olds moved outside
x3 3wk olds, a CCL and two Columbian Wyandottes...(the CW's are twice the size of the CCL)
x3 new hatches....and more to come maybe.....
x18 of MsLadyHawk's  hatching eggs with x5 of my CCLs in lockdown.....

its going to get interesting here pretty soon......

I like the singer name idea...it will be neat to see how they end up looking. The black one with the Silver Pencilling on her neck was my favorite from that group.

I need a babysitter to keep me from buying more hatching eggs.  I picked up 2 dozen Mottled/Spangled English Orp eggs today. I have a project planned...  Anyone have LF Choc Orps?  I'd prefer a few (3-4) young-ish cockerels.  Or hatching eggs?

I had some true 'mystery eggs' hatch, one that was marked 'orp' is looking like a chocolate, the other orp is looking like a mottled. If it is indeed a chocolate cockerel, I have no use for him.

Do any of you guys have quail?

I have some eggs in the incubator, will know in about a week?

The ones she got are mixes, all from brown eggs but grandparents may have been green eggers.... mix of White rock, barred rock, light sussex, jersey giant and a few barnyard mix hens, and our Black Australorp and black sex link barred rooster.

We don't keep any bird that is aggressive and we won't even sell them if we know they have bad attitudes at all... those birds are removed from the genetics because I don't want future generations... over a few years it has really improved the overall attitude of the flock and generally we get a lot of decent birds. No matter what you still get a few who are more 'flighty' and the infrequent aggressive rooster, but that is just the nature of genetics and it will occur sometimes.

I really, really love those WR roosters, they are nice to be around, gorgeous to look at and I know our two are being outstanding with the broodies and tiny chicks... it is really something to watch an 11 lb rooster with his head at ground level calling over babies to take food from his beak when his head is bigger than their entire body! LOL. We couldn't find one of the 2 week old chicks one evening at bedtime, the broody had taken her crew onto the shelf for the first time the night before and we were worried it didn't follow her into the coop. I was checking all of the shelves before going outside to hunt for it and I touched Andre's chest and he stood for me... and there was the chick, safely tucked under him! Guess the chick made it to the top shelf while mama had stayed on the second one so he just tucked under 'Uncle Andre' instead!

They are cute!! Glad you are getting a good hatch after everything you have had go wrong earlier this season!

Hmm... maybe I need to send Romeo to freezer camp and replace him with a friendlier Black Australorp roo... have any to spare? I'm at my wit's end with this boy, he used to be so sweet and then Spring came and now he can be a real bully sometimes. I want to keep a BA roo so we can hatch more layers for the main coop, but I can't deal with a moody roo when my kids and their friends want to play in the back yard (with the chickens of course, because chickens are awesome).
