we have an unexpected baby staying with us now for a few days (until she's big enough to fly away). We found her in the yard yesterday, weak and scared. She has a whole bunch of pin feathers that aren't completely grown in yet and there's no way she's ready to fly. We found a giant pin feather on the ground beside her so either her next was attacked by a predator or the high winds and rains knocked her out. The kids have been hunting worms for her nonstop and she's been opening her mouth real big for food constantly lol (she loves chick starter). I've also been giving her water with save a chick electrolytes. She's really peeked up since yesterday. Unfortunately, we found one of her siblings in the yard today, dead.

*has an image of wing sneaking garbage bags full of meat scraps out the back door* :lau

In other news, I got the final necropsy report on the sick chick that I sent to Penn State. Cocci and Mareks. A kick in the gut to start off the week. What would you guys do? I have a broody sitting on eggs right now... should I let her sit?

I glued it down and caulked (sp?) The back and sides against the walls. Works great and when I scrub them down, I just slather the water all over them without fear of it dripping down through the wood.

I put frp (fiberglass reinforced plastic) on a piece of plywood then put trim around the edge holds it down great take it or scrape it off or hose it off.

I let the flock out again. There is a pile of ... I forgot the name somehow. The stuff used for windows in place of glass. Anyway, there is a bunch behind the green shed. I am assuming that they saw their reflections, because all of a sudden, everyone ran/flew (silently) to the coop. It was quite funny! Plexiglass!
A cat was sitting on my property watching me. I finally asked the dog why he was allowing it. He turned, and saw the cat, and chased it. After that, he kept an eye on the flock, and chased the cat again.

The cat isn't a danger, but it's the idea.
The flock is so happy to get out. I hope I am able to keep letting them out on most evenings. They will be happier when the landscaper finally shows up. Fresh clippings to scratch through!

Auro:

Found a few robin chicks as a kid...never were able to keep them going, but the vet suggested(at that time many years ago) turn dry dog food into a mush, the chicks seemed to like it when offered......
