They are approximately 10 weeks old. Only one is crowing, although I suspect that both are roos. They are in a little bachelor pen with some very vocal OEGB, so maybe that was encouragement.

Anyone else having nothing but downpours today?

Well, this morning I treated about 75 chickens with Ivermectin for lice. 2 of them puked on me and one pooped on me, but most were surprisingly tolerant. I expected the "mellow" Rhodebars to be easier than the Legbars, but that was not the case, the Legbars were really easy to catch and hold.

Had my first "substantial" guinea hatch, 17 out of 23 eggs that made it to lockdown. Unfortunately, 2 of the eggs were overlooked when I was moving them to the hatcher, and those 2 fell off the rack in the cabinet incubator (about a foot, I would say), and then got a bit splay legged because of the smooth tray in the bottom. I need to a) be more careful to account for all the eggs, and b) put a piece of hardware cloth on the bottom so they have something to grip if it should happen again. I go to all that work to make the hatcher "just right" with high humidity and slightly cooler temps, and I get a perfect hatch with the eggs getting turned to the end and the humidity far too low!

Backstory:
Mare was/is the neighbors, but I am buying her (hard to so when you have more into feeding her for 2 months than her purchase price). She was brought over when the neighbor asked to use my pasture. I asked for Dusty because she was the worst of all his horses - although all were malnourished.

After 9 days here - 5/14/15 (sorry, no first day pics - she was really in bad condition).

I slacked off on the pics since not a whole lot has changed. Until tonight....


Dusty gave birth to a red dun filly! I was so unready - I am currently freaking out over what could have gone wrong because she showed no signs and I didn't find her and the foal until after the fact. Lets hope both stay healthy and all goes well... A lot could still go wrong. This is my first foal, so I am even more paranoid that most, I think.

Today hubby picked a zucchini and an eggplant from our garden, Woo hoo!! I can't wait till we have some cucumbers and tomatoes.

We are supposed to get around 2.54 inches of rain today into tomorrow. We need the rain. The news keeps saying we are in a drought. I hope this helps with the drought. The plus side is, I don't have to water the trees or the garden!
