Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I woke up this morning and let everyone out like usual and I found Sugar, my white EE hen dead under the roost bar :( it's so heartbreaking. She was one of my original girls and was boss hen in my coop. There was nothing wrong with her yesterday but by the way she was laying, it looked like she was crawling under the roost bar and someone fell or jumped on her and broke her neck. RIP sweet Sugar

So sorry.

Sorry, Aurora.

Two layers confirmed! The pictures inside were fuzzy, but she did get to walk in the coop today.
You would think I would try to get the girls to use the boxes. I just don't care enough. :-D

She is just the cutest lil farm hand ever.

I had a very pleasant visit with Dick Horstman  at his poultry farm. He recommends Red Comets for egg production for small BYC. I just wish he had some--. Would love to find some pullets.

Our 4-H kids have some for sale. They are not permitted to bring poultry to the fair and so their egg layer program is cancelled and lots of the kids have RSL pullets for sale.

Anne, when did your babies hatch? Mine did on June 7. I still don't know if I have roos or pullets.

Aurora, sorry about Sugar.

Anyone hear from LMP? I haven't been up that way lately.

Sorry for your loss.

Thank you everyone. It was a hard loss for me since this was the first natural chicken death I've had and I wasn't expecting to go through that for a few years. But, life goes on. I'm feeling better today. The rest of my flock did a good job of cheering me up yesterday. The little group of ameraucanas were being little clowns running around and my favorite turkey poult, Eve (might be an Adam :/) spent the evening following me around and napping on my lap by the campfire. He/she is so spoiled but I can only imagine is he's a he. I'll have a 25 lb tom hanging out on my lap all the time lol

. I can hardly believe this. Another broody! This is my Bantam Langshan that went broody in Dec, then in the spring, and she is back on the nest. Here's a question for you all. I gave my other broody eggs to hatch on Tuesday afternoon. Could I take some eggs from Broody #1 and put them under Broody Or would that not be enough to time for broody #2?

But if she got her neck broken, is it really a natural death?
