Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Well, upon being released from the run this morning, Zippy stood straight up and teen-aged crowed. Cracking voice and all.

Clearly he was waiting for an audience! ;)

Anyone in NEPA looking for a Golden Laced Wyadotte Roo?? I have one who is 30 weeks old. I'd like to trade him for a hen but would consider whatever. At this point I have too many Roos and doesn't fit well in either coop he is large and protective tho. (He was supposed to ba she when I bought him  )

Just a quick pic! This little one had wiggled out from underneath Mama. I heard it cheeping and snapped a pic. I left the Mama alone, figuring she would be okay. When I checked back later, the chick was fairly cold but still alive. I just pushed it back under Mama. I'm think it should survive. I'm hearing at least two peeps now, but I had to go to work, so I can't peek until later!

Ahh... Baby chicks ...the moments I live for.

Hubs' dad and step-mom got a bunch of chicks this spring and while they love having them, his dad just had back surgery and isn't able to manage chickens right now. They asked us if we wanted to take them but we just don't have the space or the time to build a new coop so we said we would help find them new homes. I need to talk to his step-mom to clarify all of this but I wanted to put some feelers out to see if anyone would want to adopt these birds. They live near Lehighton, but I'm sure they'd want me to pick them up and coordinate transport so they don't have to deal with people, lol. So, you don't need to be local to Lehighton... chicken train will be heading back to Pittsburgh/Beaver County and I can drop anywhere along the way. I believe there are 10-12 rhode island reds and a handful of bantams (mostly roos). I have some pictures from when we came down to visit in July. Hatch date was late April, she first posted pictures of the peeps on April 27.

I think I may give in :/ little Cookie is being so stubborn. I can't keep her in the broody breaker forever. If she stays in the box all day today, I'll give her 3 eggs. And I'm not intervening at all this time around. She'll be on her own to succeed or fail and she'll be in the main coop with everyone. It seems the only way to break her determination is to just let her do it. I've broken her at least 4 times this summer but now, she won't be broken lol. So Cookie, the tiny mother hen is at it again!

My broodys have all been hatching out their chicks in the main (small) coop. We have had some squashed eggs, but the turnouts have been pretty good.

@dheltzel I can see five chicks so far. They are all different colors! So adorable. I can't wait to get home and see how many she has this evening. I almost sent you a pic on your phone but I don't want to disturb you at work. I will post it here later. :jumpy
