My dream would be a bit more acreage, up on a hill....and it would be called Broody Rock Ridge....

I always 'warn' anyone getting birds from us that brooding is a strong possibility, but unfortunately they just don't always fall into line, go figure!
But today I actually had someone call who bought birds almost a year ago and wants some more from us, and 2 of the 3 pullets have been broody for her already...

But motorcyclechick got 5 from us and they haven't gone broody yet

Hey everyone! I have 4 purebred Ameraucana cockerels for sale. I have 1 blue and 3 black. They're about 2 months old and fully feathered. Asking 10 for each.

Cookie had her babies out and running around the coop today. I'm happy to say that the two older roos (only 8 months old) have taken daddy roles already though they were both a little confused at first. Zeus stared at them like aliens at first but couldn't stop watching them. Rosco decided to sit on the end of the nest box to keep watch over them. So proud of my boys :)

Awesome to hear they are getting out! I do love watching a good rooster with the little ones...
 
I hatched 4 roosters in June and one just started to crow...so they gotta go (no rooster zoning). I have places for them twice....and twice it fell through. They are all unique, so if anyone can take one I would be very appreciative. I am so frustrated that both homes fell through and now I hate to think what the next phase might be. If anyone knows of any friends or farms looking for some gorgeous boys...please message me or let me know. One is a Dominque....one naked neck (the crower) ...one Blue Favacuana...one barred cochin. All are friendly and calm. I wish I could keep them, but cannot. They are 12 weeks.I live in NY (near NYC) but I am willing to drive in order to see they get a good home. Im hoping to avoid the pot for them. Thanks for any help!

I really feel for you. I've been getting requests to take roosters all summer, it's quite a dilemma for families that have grown attached to their birds. Everyone would like to find a place where their pet can live out his life on a farm and not get killed just because he's the wrong gender and can't produce eggs.

That doesn't happen much and I feel obligated to tell anyone dropping off a rooster to me that he will be dead and eaten within a few days. Sometimes I think I should run a "rescue service" where I tell people I find good homes for them, then take them out back and dispatch them humanely. It would just be a little "white lie" and make some people very grateful. But the "adult" in me says that this is a harsh reality that people (even some kids) should not be shielded from. We take on a responsibility with any pet and anyone who has ever had their beloved pet put to sleep knows that taking that responsibility involves bad outcomes (for us, as the ones left behind) as well. I know the circumstances here are different, but a humane death is ok, IMO. Every chicken dies someday, this is just early and painless, and not all the alternative deaths are painless.

You could try selling them on Craigslist. If you list them for free, you pretty much assure then a trip to the freezer. I have sold a few roosters as breeders, but honestly it's a long shot.
