I had only one occurrence of a headless chicken,,,,my understanding is racoon....mostly because I am suburban and there's no weasels in my neck of the woods..(and racoon have been seen in the area). Its a PIA when the local critter get dialed in on your flock as a food source.., some thoughts

1. audio, turn on a radio and let it play
2. random motion lights
3. I started burning a chimera
IMHO there is no single answer....just do different things on different nights, send different messages to the critters to stay away......my two cents....

I lost my entire flock when a critter got into my coop over the summer. I also appreciate the suggestions from stake on how to deflect the critters. I will be trying these out.

What predators eat the eggs, but leave the chickens alone? I know skunk. Are there others?
After sitting for all that time, the broody was up today. And she wasn't frantic. There was one fresh egg in the nest, and ten not-so-warm. I'll buy that she was just enjoying some time off the nest. I don't believe that the four other girls, that have been lying daily, have only laid 10 eggs in six days. No sign of goo or shell to indicate egg eating chickens.

Thank you so much.
sure.......

Well it's been months since I've been on here, but I could use some advice please:) I have 2 broody banty cochin hens that ended up hatching out a chick. My daughter had been getting eggs, but didn't tell me she left one. Once I found it I didn't have the heart to take it. I've never let them before, and now I'm not sure what to do. I fixed them up their own privat area, around where they were nesting. Here is a pic. Any advice would be welcome.

I have a silkie and 2 littles in an XL dog crate just so I can watch them. They will be out in the real world when they have more feathers.

I'm not actually in PA but there are not many BYCers in my area. Im in Western MD in the pinched in part. Cumberland. PA state line is about 15 minutes from here.

I'd say a snake.

Congrats @GR Chicks! Just let them handle it. I'd say kero them secluded like that for at least a few days then let them rejoin the flock. That's what I do anyway.

@speney. Release the Kraken? Bwahahahaha!

Sally!! Love your scary avatars, very cool.

Motorcyclechick, no excuses, you need to join the Halloween Hatch now.

Look who stole my ride this morning...
