Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I hear ya. I have another one making that soft broody clucking. It might be time to get her some eggs soon. I think this is her third time since spring, if she decides to go full broody.
Do you find your broodies are all different? I have one broody that has kept her chicks around much longer (the bantam Cochin). My Langshan Mamas definitely separate earlier, the one that hatched the 11 chicks has bailed out and the chicks all still sleep in the nesting box together.

Definitely differences between hens! And even differences depending on season, Gracie boots the Littles at about 5 weeks during the summer but keeps them nearly 8 weeks during cold weather, so they definitely seem to base their care on what the Littles need.
We often have Co-brooding, it seems one hen quits about 5-6 weeks and lets the other 'finish' the chicks so she can get back to egging...I guess if they were living wild their behavior would help flock survival.

@Katt66 has a jersey giant hen that is broody for her third time this year! Crazy girls. She doesn't have space so Peri is going to live with me for a few months. I'm not gonna lie, I'm excited about it! Lol

I have 2 Muscovy ducks being broody right now! Crazy girls.

Penelope is still egg bound and alive. She was out eating this morning. You can see how different she stands.

This summer's hatch of babies running amuck!

Me too! I tried the lube and baths but she was getting so depressed in my house I brought her back outside to be in her normal environment and she perked up. She gets around and eats and drinks fine but getting back into the coop at night is hit or miss. Sometimes she can get back in and other nights I have to put her back in the coop. She is happier outside.

I'm starving already! I have a quadruple batch of chicken noodle soup started up :) we'll be having it for dinner tonight and canning the rest. It'll be nice this winter when it's freezing out to heat some up.

@barbie, love the picture of the birds running amuck. It really has a way of calming your soul.

I made some mushroom soup yesterday, did NOT turn out well. I'm thinking of adding chicken, celery and dumplings and calling it chicken and dumplings with mushroom.
