I hear ya. I have another one making that soft broody clucking. It might be time to get her some eggs soon. I think this is her third time since spring, if she decides to go full broody.
Do you find your broodies are all different? I have one broody that has kept her chicks around much longer (the bantam Cochin). My Langshan Mamas definitely separate earlier, the one that hatched the 11 chicks has bailed out and the chicks all still sleep in the nesting box together.![]()
Definitely differences between hens! And even differences depending on season, Gracie boots the Littles at about 5 weeks during the summer but keeps them nearly 8 weeks during cold weather, so they definitely seem to base their care on what the Littles need.
We often have Co-brooding, it seems one hen quits about 5-6 weeks and lets the other 'finish' the chicks so she can get back to egging...I guess if they were living wild their behavior would help flock survival.
