Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

We have a fair amount of coverage too. This hawk came out of nowhere, I saw it happen. They hid for hours after that.

Love your pics by the way!

My new BR was dropped off yesterday. She arrived mid molt so she looks terrible, but I was pleased tonight she found her way into the coop by herself. Will post pics soon!

Anne:

Could you tell what type of hawk? ...and are you still collecting feed bags? I have a bunch and need to do something with them.....

It's snowing here! This isn't right!
Nooooo!!!! I am not ready for that!!

The coldest night of the y ear so far. Every thing is frozen!! I have Muscovy eggs hatching. Momma was off of her nest this morning and I heard peeping. I saw one that was all fluffy and one in the egg half way out. Momma went back on her nest.

Congratulations! I agree with Fisherlady, your BA will be a great layer of nice large eggs!

Thanks.

Congrats! BAs are known to be good layers, so would not be a surprise if she did both. Enjoy your breakfast in the morning!
Thanks.
So my earlier thinking appears to have been incorrect.....at least partially. Since I went to check for eggs this morning and found two more. So I've got two girls that are laying. Not sure if its two BA girls or a BA and a SLW as all four eggs have been "brown" in color with two being slightly darker and two slightly lighter.

It was a fairly big one, not sure. It landed on the chick, then when I came out screaming, it flew very low across the neighbors backyard and across the street. I could still see the bugger! I have a ton of feed bags, but I can use more. I will have plenty of hours this winter to be sewing them up. I just can't see when I can pick them up. Do you ever come to bucks county?

Hey guys, I'm still alive!

Went to the Fayette swap today, and managed to not buy anything! I have 25 birds now, last year at this time I had 10 or 12. :lau

Also swung by the poultry show barn, most of the stuff in there looked great, but a whole aisle of cornishes had some profuse bubbling from their eyes. MG is always cute, especially when you can practically feel and picture it clinging to your clothes as you walk through. :) I felt like I needed a shower after that. I peeled off 3 off the 4 layers of clothes I had on before I even got out of the car when I got home.

On the bright side, I got the okay for turkeys in the spring!!! :yesss: I've been talking about it for awhile, and there were so many for sale today. My dad was gobbling back and forth to some before that in the show barn, and I think it sold him.

There were a lot of call ducks there today, and the only white pair for sale weren't very good quality and way overpriced.

we went too, i ended up coming home with another cock bird, a light brahma , hubby thinks i'm crazy but never had a chicken this big, my brahmas look like babies compared to him and from what i understand, he comes from one of the top breeder, of course he never came into the show barn so he should be safe, only thing, hes use to a heated barn

Ok this probably is going to be a long post but I'm not sure where to turn at this point and I just need to vent. I'll start from the beginning my cousin does drugs and had her son taken away I raised him for three years but the state resently decided she is doing good enough to have him back it broke my heart I'm still trying to get him back and I know I eventually will even the local drug dealer came up to me in the grocery store and he said I hope I get him back because she is doing the same things again. It's driving me crazy. Right after that I lost my job I'm doing odds n ends jobs to make ends meet until i find full time work again and work toward the future that I want for me and my son when I get him back it's the only thing keeping me going. Part of that is having animals both he and I love them dearly especially chickens. I was hoping by next spring to be able to work part time and the rest would be farming I want to teach him the thing that I was taught as a child to work the land and raise your own food. It seems though I have only had one problem after another. We had coyotes which are now taken care of the dog that was dropped off at my house n we decided to keep got loose he is good w the chickens when I'm out there but when I'm not and they run he kills them he got two my RiR which were my favorite and all of my meatier but one even though he never left the yard (I was at my aunts helping her so I wasn't home) the cops were called thank god its a small town so i know him really well and he just warned me. But my family is urging me to find him a home and get a puppy I raise w my chickens so I don't have this issue. Then a bear comes through and decided to do a little damage he ripped the door of my shed and ripped everything out and destroyed my chicken coop but didnt get my chickens but he did get my rabbit he is as we speak being tracked.so all the predators are taken care of but I'm starting from less than scratch again it all getting to be a little to much. Also my jeep is u n inspected bc I can't afford the work it needs so I can't even just get in and go for a drive and let off some steam. I'm just ready to loose it and my family doesn't understand my sister won't even let me watch my niece bc I have chickens she says that dirt from them drags so how can my house really ever be clean I have to disinfect myself even to hold her because I touch chickens. I wish someone in my town had my views just to have a friend to have coffee with right know would be nice. Again sorry to vent and make a long post but I had to get it out.
