I need an idea of how to keep the water from freezing without using a homemade water bowl heater or buying a heated dish. I've got it!
I have a lot of fish tanks and equipment! I am going to use an air pump, hose and bubbler to keep the water moving! It's safer than the water heaters my dh made several years ago, and something I have on hand.
Just sharing in case someone needs an idea.

I remember a lot of water ended up on the inside top of my aquariums from the bubbles popping. I think in a coop some water will get sprayed outside the water bowl, adding to the humidity in the coop. Heated waterers certainly create more humidity from evaporation also, but I'm concerned that the amount is more and the benefit is less with bubbling air. And when it gets really cold, it will freeze the bubbler right in with the rest of the bowl.

But it could extend the time the water stays liquid enough to help on the freezing, but not super freezing days. You could plug the air pump into one of those thermostatic outlet controls to turn off the bubbling when the temps are above freezing.

Thanks

I have 7 eggs set aside already and I'm waiting until Sunday to set...I need a bigger bator lol. I met someone on Facebook that has an extra wine cooler that doesn't work that they're going to give me lol. It's not huge but it could work

especially if I turn it in to a hatcher and still buy a cabinet bator

If you are building/enhancing an incubator, look into this for controlling the temp: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B015G25HNQ
It's $27 but much easier to hook up than the STC-1000's (they are about $16, but you need a bunch of other stuff to hook them up properly and safely), and a lot more accurate too. There are several Youtube videos about this controller to help program it for extreme accuracy. It's easy to play with using any lamp to see that is it working like you want.
Ebay has the same thing for $23.25, but it gets delivered from China and will take a few weeks to get here.

That's true. I just need it to work for a few days. It was supposed to be warmer next weekend, but now it's going down to the twenties overnight, and only the low forties during the day. I had arrangements for the ducklings due to hatch, but no one is close enough to change frozen water for me.

MCC I remember reading that you can sit a water bucket inside an old tire in a sunny spot and it's supposed to absorb enough heat that the bucket doesn't freeze Haven't tried it myself.

With the forecast changing hourly, saying it will be colder and colder next week, I've come up with a new plan.
The ducks will be staying in the house. I'm not happy about it, but it is what it is. I might have a place to keep them in the basement, but I'm not sure. The chickens... I only have six. I just might move them in here too. All I know is that I need to get away from this house, and around people! :-D Even if it means dealing with family. And even if it means keeping fowl in the house for my peace of mind.

Lucky! I would be skinned alive if I brought adults birds to live in the house...
