Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi all, finally catching up after being away for the holiday break. Laying has finally picked up here and my sisters birds (well, one or two of them) have finally started laying! When we got home Hubs ran to the store for some essentials - eggs, milk, etc. He came back and I checked on the chickens to find 18 eggs! I guess the neighbor wasn't collecting them every day. We're getting about 5 or 6 a day now (from my 8 mature hens).

Brr.. sudden chill in the air this week. I'm regretting using our long extension cord for the Christmas lights on the front of the house, I need it for the heated waterers! For some reason we don't have a ladder and need to borrow the neighbor's in order to get the extension cord off the lights so I'm stuck waiting for Hubs to help make that happen. The chicken and turkey waterers I can deal with because they are close to the garage and I have extras so I can just swap a new one for a thawed one from the garage. It's the rabbit water bottles that are so annoying... two of them clamp on so I have to reach inside the cage to switch it out and yesterday with my hands full of water bottles I forgot to latch our buck's cage. I came out this morning and his cage was empty :( He usually stays close but I'm assuming with the cold he left to find/dig some shelter and I haven't been able to find him.

My doe and buck are siblings (which is not ideal anyway) and rather than replace the buck with one of the male kits, I was thinking I should find a new buck from a different bloodline if Sonny doesn't turn up soon. Anyone know where I could look to find American Blue meat rabbits? Is there a rabbit forum similar to byc that could help source this less common breed?

I saw the new ones and they do look nice but I'm not a fan of white either lol. I like a splash of color ;)

I showed hubby the one you're building. He's impressed and wants to build one eventually too lol

I have a few old refrigerators (full size, and a mini) a deep freezer and an Igloo cooler (hot and cold) that I may know where the cord is for it. I must admit that getting to them is a challenge, but if anyone is interested, keep me in mind. Step one is interest. Step two is "how the heck do we get it out of that garage?"

My treat for the twerps at dusk is BOSS. I give the 10 of them about a cup or so tossed in the run. That way I can do a head count and make sure they are all in before I close up the run for the night.

In other news, CATE LAID HER FIRST EGG! I think the light one is Niko's from Sunday, and the blue one is Vicki's from today.

Welcome back! Sorry I can't be any help on the rabbits.
