@dheltzel How did you get the 16' cattle panels home for your hoop coops?

A few years back we had a family run a corn maze on the farm and they had animals in pens made from the cattle panels. When they closed up shop, they offered the used panels to me for $4 each. Score !!

I've heard you can bend them into an 8 ft bed, they would be about 6 ft high. You should tie them down really well, but they don't make a lot of wind resistance. I've hauled 16 ft cattle gates in an 8 ft bed a couple of times. That was always scary, I put something real heavy in the end stuck in the truck. I wouldn't recommend that for the panels though, they would flap too much and probably "escape" the bed.

Their reproduction can be irregular as they get older, so it is always possible that she is still producing a rare egg, it could be stuck or may have been laid internally...it could also be a reproductive tumor which has grown in size and is causing her problems now.
I'm suspect reproductive tumor too. A 4 year hen should still lay some eggs. If she haven't laid for a year, it could be a reproductive tumor that causes internal laying. Of course, I don't have any personal experience and this is just a guess from me reading the book "chicken heath for dummy".

Everyone that is going to experience the mess over the next few days (we are expecting over an inch of rain and snow today, and an inch of snow tomorrow) please be careful, and salt before the ice lays today!

Thanks, it's okay... I found him! The sun came out and warmed things up a bit later that day and I spotted him grazing on some grass over near the driveway.

Great news! I'm so glad that he is safe.

I'm glad that DH just finished the roof of our coop today! The process of building the coop is already much slower than we planned. The chicks are coming next month.

We're supposed to get nasty stuff too :/ of course, my husband and son just left for winter camp for boy scouts. I'm hoping they get there tonight before everything really starts freezing. It's already starting with the rain :/
