Welcome to my world. LOL I think you're spoiled with those chicks that are sexable at hatch!

Oh Tilly, so sorry. I'm glad she has you to care for her.

I had a singleton chick hatch this weekend. I sent her to a different farm that had a recent hatch so she wouldn't be alone, unfortunately, she wasn't accepted by the chicks at this other farm and is badly injured. They pretty much scalped her. She is now back on my counter top, she has a few stuffed animal friends, and doesn't seem very interested in eating or drinking. I dip her beak every time I pass that way. Poor little thing. She was peeping her head off last night after I picked her up, this morning she's not as vocal. I can't figure out if that's a good thing or not. Sometimes I think, 'oh good, she's settled', and then I think, 'oh no, she's dying.'

I wish you weren't so far away

, we have broody babies that could keep her company, janeway wouldn't miss one or two.

I'm glad it worked... ours often like baked or boiled fish which has been mushed up also. The little buggers are omnivores, but ours sure show a preference for meat when they can get it!
I have tilapia, is that ok for chicks? If so, I can try to offer some to Penny. She is so different form the other chicks, who LOVE mealworm. She just turned her nose from mealworm when everyone else was fighting for them.

We have given ours perch and walleye which are white fish similar to tilapia with no problem, just offer a small amount more as a treat to encourage the eating habit, mix it with some chick crumbles to make sure she is getting appropriate balance of nutrients. I like offering a variety of foods to the littles to encourage growth and help them see people as the source of good things....

That's a great idea.

Sorry to hear that. It's so frustrating when chicks are not doing well. Hope our chicks can both pull through.

Thanks. My girl is really peeping up a storm now, so I think she's on the mend.

You are so sweet! Thank you. I think I can get away with buying only 2 at Pickering Feed, I'll head up there later this week. I'm hesitant to put her in with anyone right now as it was a disaster last night. She was just hatched Sunday morning.

I haven't had lunch yet and I like Tilapia. Just sayin.

Is that a growling stomach I hear? LOL....
Not to rub it in, but last night's dinner was walleye baked in a light sauce of honey and lemon juice with just a bit of spices...

Yes, I have come to rely on the autosexing, and that isn't happening with Ameraucanas, but I really like the looks and temperment of the Ams. Some of the colors are sexable by color at a few weeks of age, so I'm trying some of them, but the Lavenders and Blacks are so very pretty, even if they take so long to be sure you have pullets.

If you need a buddy for your chick, I can always spare a chick or 2.

I've been off for a while with my life being crazy. I've been catching up the past few days all the chicken are doing well and I will be putting some orpington eggs in the incubator on March 5 along with some EE eggs I got my hands on. The orpington eggs will be from the chickens chiques chicks sent me and the eggs I set from the bantams that emorems0 gave me hatched so I four happy and healthy additional that are growing like crazy. I have big plans for another chicken coop and a pole barn with this warm weather so there is no chance of me slowing down. I hope you are all doing ok

Can you post a picture of the bantams and their chicks? It would make my FIL's day to see his chickens happy and reproducing!

GM all:

I've been off line for a while. Hope everyone is doing well! See quite a bit is going on....I guess spring fever has hit...

As always still having fox issues, and will be building fort knox when things warm up...my girls (except two) will not fly over 4' fencing....
