Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Sorry to take over the thread people, been down and out with some kind of sickness and am up and going today!! Just bathed and treated 6 grown Orpingtons, my back is KILLING me. Now I've got to get the pen cleaned and dusted.

Glad you're feeling better. It's a nasty thing going around. :(

Mites?

I haven't integrated my girls yet. Actually I've always waited until about 15 weeks and it's gone very well. A little bit of pecking and chasing, but normal. I am intrigued about integrating sooner, so may try, but not yet.

Put the little girls out at the beginning of the week in a the small coop. Just opened their run area to extend to the fence barrier where the big girls are. Thinking it would be good to let them be close and see each other for about 2 weeks before trying anything.

Does anyone around here have Breda Fowl?
Or bantam Polish?
I can get eggs of Blue Breda Fowl. A friend has a small flock. He was talking about hatching a few to get some black pullets (all his birds are blue and splash). I can get eggs for you or hatch some chicks if you prefer. Last time we hatched them they were very fertile and easy to hatch, but that was a different roo. The chicks were small for a LF (eggs are small too).

A few things to beware of with Bredas
1. the extreme feather attracts mud and muck.
2. they are only mediocre layers of off white eggs
3. roos are often people aggressive

So the chicks can come out and the hens can go in? Do you leave it open like that all day long? Close it again at night? Do your hens free range or are they fairly close to the chick area all throughout the day?

It's in the actual, main coop and they can all go in and out. I actualy removed the crate entirely today.

I have seen the now 4-week -olds running around in the main coop while the others were free ranging. I wondered today if they would wander outside? They did!
Here is a good looking little girl.

The cage is mine. I caught him when he was trying to roost on my car. We came home from State collage and he was in our driveway. Probably heard our birds. I'm betting Bandit chased him out of the yard numerous times today. I know I said that I wanted polish but that didn't mean that I wanted them dumped at my house! If I could integrate adult roosters intrusion my flock, I'd quarentine him and give him a shout but I can't. My flock doesn't allow it.
