Thanks. Can that be wired up just like a light bulb?

Yes, just make sure the one you get is 110v. They have other voltages (12v DC and 220v AC), so read the descriptions carefully (made that mistake on another item I purchased, so I check and double check now, esp on items I know are coming from China, since 110v is not the "default" in other countries).

Texas A&M Coturnix and Mearns.

If you get Mearns chicks for sale, let me know. I can't believe I'd take on another breed of anything, but the rarer gamebird species have always fascinated me and I doubt I could pass up something that was close and available.

That last line makes me sound like an addict. I'm not . . . I can quite anytime I want . . .

The white eggs are all pretty much reserved already lol. A few of the turkey poults too. The rest, I will pick the best of and make a heck of a cream legbar breeding flock

Keep all the Legbar pullets for future breeding! We have about 30 of them between the 2 flocks and given the demand for Legbar chicks this spring I wish I had 3 times that many.
You can never have too many Legbars.

My chicks are five weeks old today. When I put them out in the coop a few weeks ago, I let the heat lamp hang down pretty low. Despite having a wind block, I wanted to be sure that the matter how cold it got, they could stay warm. Yesterday I finally raised it up quite a bit. I was concerned about them today with it being cold and wet. They have been running all Inver the entire coop, and even tried to get outside ( not their first venture. I think they always stay right outside the door though) but the rooster went to investigate them, and they ran back in.
So, it is evident that they are plenty warm enough. I will not have to lower the heat lamp some. Of course, it is going to get below freezing the next few nights, but after today I'm just not worried about that.

Whew! Been a few days since I checked the thread. You all have been busy! Today was the first day I felt really good after the flu. So I cleaned my coop, and boy, did it need it! This week I will be cleaning up the rest of the yard and porch. There's always something to do!

Btw, we are having our roof replaced this spring, any tips from someone who has dealt with that before? We are having several people give us bids. I'm pretty good at seeing through bs thankfully!

Last time I had a shingle roof replaced I got quotes from about 7 places. All quotes by square foot and all were the same (given the same shingles). It was a very simple roof, no valleys or dormers. Difference in price was all difference in single quality.

It seems Welsummers should be the only chipmunk chicks in the list. I got my chicks as 3 day old instead of one day old, so they are not as fluffy as yours. Congratulations! You have very nice breeds of chickens. I like Speckled Sussex too.
well I just talked them at Myers they have 2 extra speckled sussex that I just bought my girlfriend is going to love me...lol

GM all:

Lost one of my girls to a fox this morning...she let herself out of the pen......what a PIA!....I hate foxes......

So sorry Stake, that's terrible. :(

Get quotes for both shingles and metal roofing, we love our metal roof but you do hear more rain...make sure quotes include removal and disposal of old shingles. With heavy snow load you don't need the extra weight of the old shingles...in my opinion...

Thank you!

I'm so sorry to hear that :(
See if you can find a number for Amish contractors. We had the roof done to our old house last year and we had quotes for both singles and metal roofing from several different contractors. The Amish were the cheapest and did a great job. They even redid the porch roofs, fixed the back porch, put up new rain spouts and down spouts for cheaper than the other people wanted just to do the main roof.

I'm pretty sure we don't have any Amish around here, otherwise that sounds like a great option.

You may be able to "quite" any time, but quitting will be another story. Not that we'd be any help with that anyways...

The more the merriers! Remember, you're still a single man until you put a ring on it, so you can do as you like.

But you decide not to quit, right?
