Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Yes! You can tell as soon as they hatch. Just spread the fluff a little on their forehead and take a look, single comb will be a single row. Pea will be 3 rows and will be far wider! Or take a picture and post it if you're sill not sure, we can tell you

i don't know if this pic shows what u need to see or not looks like a single to me

Fifty cent silkies!? Too bad it's 3 hours away. :p There are some 3-week-old silkies at the TSC near me and I told myself that if they're still there the next time I go I'll just take the lot of them.

Looks single to me, too, and I have a dark Cornish hen. Your peep doesn't look like she did when she was itty bitty. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

My dark cornish is a sweetheart, I think she's my favorite.

I forget sometimes that there are youngins in here. I think it's great that you guys raise your own birds. My girls are 7, 4, and 1 1/2 now, but I hope as they get older they will take the lead on raising their own animals too. ♡

Don't they ship

Janeway is a busy hen...she decided her own 7 chicks didn't keep her busy enough so she adopted the 3 chicks that Jo just cut the apron strings on. Janeway's chicks are 4 weeks old, Jo's are 6 weeks. Now she has them all on the top roost shelf...

Fisher:

Your girls are amazing....one after the other out does other on the broody thing...do you think its learned or genetics ???

Don't they ship

TSC does not ship and I don't believe you can ship older birds. Day olds don't really need food or water because they are sustained for the first day or so from what was left of the yolk at hatching.

Did you see the post I made a few pages back about the chicken train? I was on my phone and couldn't link names so you may have missed it. I will be making a trip from western PA to eastern PA and back over Easter weekend. I plan to stop at @dheltzel 's on my way back to pick up some chicks for myself. I am happy to transport other hens, roosters, chicks, or turkeys, etc. for anyone who wants. Boyertown is pretty close to dheltzel but I don't know that those silkies will still be there in two weeks. There is a hatchery called Hacker Hollow (I don't know their BYC name), you can find them on FB - they breed silkies for show and just had a hatch - they are not too far from my route either. I am happy to help you get some far away silkies home, but you'll have to meet me near my route to pick them up - somewhere along the turnpike, I'm guessing the 522 exit which is probably about a half hour drive depending on where you are in Mcveytown.
