Anyone have any info on how to become NPIP certified in PA? I found a page with info before and emailed someone but never got a response. Now I can't even find that page again. I'm finding all kinds of stuff for every other state

Is this something that would be affected by the Governor's possible veto of the funding for the Ag extension office? I haven't followed too closely (although I should be bc it also affects 4-H). This budget crap is just a mess!

well Emorems0 I would love to see pics of your young cornish. The one thing I will say is,she is the 2nd friendliest chick in the brooder right behind my SLW pair she is,friendlier than my speckled sussex. Would love to see pics of the dark cornish chicks and your grown girl if u have them.

Thanks Tom.
Here she is as a pullet with my daughter last summer (who is dressed up as Fawn from the Tinker Bell movies. Fawn is the animal fairy for anyone who isn't familiar)

In these photos, all of the chipmunk pattern chicks are dark Cornish. We ordered 5 (2 male, 3 female) and all but one girl were eventually taken out by our predator issues last summer :(
The big yellow chicks are Cornish roasters and the small yellow with black flecks are Delaware. Some of the dark Cornish were darker and some lighter but their wing feathers seem to be more stripe-y than LeBlackbird's wellies.

Also... Easter chicken train is fast approaching... I need to coordinate my schedule so if anybody near my Rt76 to 81 to 78 (round trip) route wants something transported (or wants me to pick up some more chicks from dheltzel or anyone near the route), let me know!

@brightpennies , are we still on for turkey poults from dheltzel? **how big are they? Should I bring a crate?

@dheltzel , are we still good for the Easter chicks I wanted? I wasn't sure when you were hatching and haven't been online too much lately. If you'll have them for Tuesday pick up, I'd like 2 each of black sexlinks, welsummers, and that accidental green egg layer mix we had talked about (if you hatched more of this mix and want to unload them, I'll take more but only if you don't want them - my coop is getting FULL).

Anybody else? @Auroradream26 , I haven't decided about turkeys yet... I had really hoped my girls would start laying. I don't know what their problem is! Yours aren't pure bourbon red? Will they make a similar sized table bird?

Yes, they are similar sized. My tom, Adam, was 35 lbs at 6 months old lol. I haven't weighed him in quite a while though. Most people wouldn't know that they aren't pure Bourbon red because they're still big and red. It's just a diluted red. I wouldn't have known any better if I hadn't been told to ask Kevin Porter (turkey genetics expert). Adam is basically a Bourbon red with a diluting gene and my hens are Bourbon reds. He just passes that gene on A LOT lol.

If you decide you want any poults, I may have to take @dheltzel up on more BSL eggs since I'd be meeting you anyway lol

I agree that chick is a dark Cornish. I thought dark Cornish would feather out mostly black, so I said more likely welsummer. But comparing to your dark Cornish, she is identical.

My "logical" brain said that there was a good explanation. Everything was alright, and I would solve the mystery.
18 chicks. Gone! They were a few days shy of six weeks. Too big and too many to be taken away by a weasel. Even in the dark, I could see well enough to know they weren't on the roost, or under it. Not in one of the chickens' nestboxes... Where are those chicks?!?!
I Finally put my hand into the duck nest box. Why are the ducks so upset this morning, anyway?
No egg that I could find. I was pushing chicks left and right, pulling a few out (I held one. Ohhhhhh, she was so soft!

). Maybe the duck didn't lay.

The heat lamp is now unplugged. It is obviously not needed.

I've got all those earmarked for you from last week's hatch. According to my notes there are 3 of the Olive egg "legbars" in their bin, but honestly occasionally a chick slips through the cracks in my otherwise perfect record keeping system.

I also have about 300 eggs going into lockdown tonight for hatching this weekend, if you'd prefer younger ones.
