Welcome aboard! We have had a number of 'nearby' folks and all are welcome...

I head to your neck of the woods a time or two each year for a Cabela's run, so that makes us practically neighbors, lol.

West of Pittsburgh I assume? I'm probably pretty close to you. I do my grocery shopping across the border in Calcutta OH. I'm about 7 minutes from East Liverpool - at the corner of the three states.

Leblackbird thank you so much for the offer! Not quite sure what I'm doing yet or what breeds I want. Wanted to see what was avaiable locally. If I can't find anything locally where would you suggest I look?

For those looking for turkey, around here they generally don't become common until late April early may. The feral ones on my property have begun to mate and my captive ones without heat or extra light have produced one egg or of dirt birds.

Generally in may there is a person locally who has pulled. They are generally around $12-15. He doesn't normally sell them until at least one week in age. The ones I bought last year dressed out in the 13-15 pound range at Thanksgiving. They are reds. Harrisburg/Middletown area.

Ahhh! East Liverpool, Ohio. A smaller town I have never seen! LOL! That is where my mother's family lives. Well, until they started dying off.

Younger would probably be better since they will be grouped with about 12 other chicks that are hatching this weekend (delivery on Monday or Tuesday for hubs to pickup while we're out of town).
OK, I should have plenty of new ones hatched for you. I will avoid selling the older ones until I confirm that I will have the younger ones.

If you can't find anything locally, the only other methods you have are shipping.

There is a huge variety of breeds and varieties available for purchase all over, however you will deal with shipping-related declines in hatch rate. You are putting them under a broody though, so as long as she does her job well, you should be fine. If it were me personally though, I would not put expensive eggs under a first time broody, at least not without having a 'bator running as back up, just in case

Shipping is really hard on eggs. I'm sure we can get you some eggs close enough for a road trip. I know people in Bucks Co with eggs available from time to time. They aren't on here and I don't want to post their contact info publicly, but if you PM me, I can facilitate.

Breeds I know of in Bucks Co:
Cream Legbars
Marrunda Basque
Seramas
Bielefelders

Hatching eggs I have in Chester / Montgomery Co:
Blue Ameraucanas
Black Sexlinks (lay blue eggs)
Rhodebars
Rhodefelders (Rhodebar x Bielefelder)
Welsummers
mixed breeds from our laying flock (lay either brown or green eggs)
heritage turkeys
