Sure! Jump on board the Pennsylvania crazy train!
I agree that chick is a  dark Cornish. I thought  dark Cornish would feather out mostly black, so I said more likely welsummer. But comparing to your  dark Cornish, she is identical.
Thank you all that is my thoughts exactly, after seeing and comparing pics. I am good with her being a Dark Cornish, she is very friendly at this early age she and my 2 SLW are the first to come running across the brooder when I stick my hand in when she realizes there is no treat she jumps in my hand she knows theno I will pick her up and give her a dried mealworm.

Is this a turkey egg? I found it on top of my rabbit hutch and the naughty hen ripped up the lamination on the canvas tarp while she was up there.

I think it was from yesterday, it was cold when I found it and both turkey hens were safe in their run all day (one hen did escape for a few hours yesterday... guess it's time to fix the gap in the fence).

What do I do now? I was hoping the turkey hens, being seasonal layers would brood their own once they started laying. But she left the nice straw pile in her shed to lay this on a tarp on top of a rabbit pen and then left it there. Since it was out over the cold night it's probably not viable anymore anyway, right?

I've never had a broody chicken and this is my first year with laying turkeys so I'm not really sure what to expect. Should I just collect all the eggs I find and save them up for the incubate (room temp or fridge?)? Or should I leave her to do her thing and hope that she figures it out. I'd rather not incubate myself bc I'd have to buy one and the one I want isn't in the budget right now.

Next to a chicken egg... I expected the turkey egg to be bigger. It's a little bigger, but not much.

Since I'm 6 minutes from the PA border, in WV (and 35 from Pittsburgh) can I claim almost PA Residence? Looking for local chicken people :)

Welcome from Cambria county! I'm about 1 1/2-2 hours easy of Pittsburgh. Seems most people are on the eastern half of the state but there are a few of us that are closer to you :)

Yep, that is definitely a turkey egg. From my understanding, a turkey hen MAY go broody. I had one go broody but she was a terrible incubator. Every turkey egg I gave her died and every chicken egg I gave her got smashed and eaten :/ I finally gave her poults...which she didn't follow when they left the nest and they died. I gave her a 3 week old poult that didn't bond to her who died. Finally, I gave her 2 new poults, blocked them in the nest with her and managed to get them all bonded together and she ended up not being protective and I STILL had to take the poults from her. She's finally broken now but what a fiasco!

If you're going to save it to incubate, I would keep it in a carton on the counter till you're ready to set it.

Are you going to want any poults? I'm going to get some hatching eggs from dheltzel so I'll have to meet you along the route again anyway as long as it works for you.

Depends on the turkey breed what color they are. I think br are tan with brown spots, slates are light blue green, as I recall.

Turkey will brood a lot of eggs, a feral up the road hatched 16 last year, most list to predators.

You can store like chicken eggs, or let them do their thing in their own time. I've never had hens to hatch, always incubated, so I don't know what they need in terms of nesting boxes, etc. I do know they take 28 days.

You can eat the eggs, if you wish. Imagine hiding huge Easter eggs!

Ok, time for photo bombing, but story first... I have to do multiple entries to keep my tablet from locking up...so expect an 'edit' before post is complete...
We have been busy with littles this week. 50 meaties have been moved out to the shed pen where they will stay for a couple weeks before moving to the mobile grow out pen.
Mindy is a happy girl because she can now get in with them for her visits.

More of the story...we had 2 hens setting, one was bullied off of the nest while we were at work and we found her eggs cold many hours later (we know what happened from reviewing coop cams) we didn't have much hope for her eggs but 3 were viable so we added them to the other hen. Brownie is 4 years old and this is her first hatch but she managed 10/10 on her original eggs. The 3 transplants were drastically delayed from chilling so had to be brought inside yesterday and 2/3 were successfully assisted, the third never absorbed the yolk...the two latecomers will be grafted to Brownie later today.
Brownie and some of her new crew...

Mindy is borrowing the late hatchlings before she has to give them back to Brownie
