All 52 chicks that were shipped to me yesterday are in great shape and seem happy. Boy, were they loud for a while. Expressing displeasure about getting shipped halfway across the country, or else hungry.

I just bought 6 large egg collecting baskets to try to streamline the collection and washing of eggs to sell. We have a lot of extra eggs now. People want to buy them, but my nieces don't want to wash them, even if they get to keep the money. They want me to wash them and still give them the money, I guess. When I was a teen . . . (better just stop there, or this will end up as how I had to trudge uphill to school every day)

Love those bantam Lavender Ameraucanas. I need to get new batteries for the camera and upload some pics. Seems I can get a bit lazy too.
Kids are lazy these days. They are really spoiled. But you may sell the eggs without washing them? There is a farm near me selling unwashed eggs all together, including some duck eggs, chicken eggs, bantam eggs, guinea eggs, turkey eggs, etc. Very colorful egg carton though. I accidently scrambled a duck egg for my breakfast, it tasted like

. Duck eggs are only good for making cakes or being salted eggs. He even sells peafowl eggs for $4 each. I don't know what can I do with peafowl eggs though.

Are you going to breed bantam Lavender Ameraucanas? Or they are just pets?

Rather shocked the duck egg treated bad. I've had some from my neighbor and preferred them. Scrambled up nice and fluffy, otherwise I noticed no difference.

I do know some people have an allergy to duck eggs but not chicken eggs. Interesting.
Maybe I'm just not used to scrambled duck eggs, but they do taste strange for me. I like scrambled goose eggs, although I'm allergic to it. Yeah, I'm that kind of person allergic to only goose eggs, not chicken, duck, guinea, or quail eggs. I'm allergic to goose meat too.

I am planning to hatch the bantam Lavenders. Bantams are not as popular with my customers, but I believe that is mostly because they don't know the advantages, especially for families with small children. But I'm up for educating some select people about it. I think small blue eggs from a small blue hen have an inherent appeal for "small people" (children). I've seen my grandsons go nuts for the tiny "champagne grapes" (they call them "grapies" - it's so cute). Same idea with bantam eggs, and of course blue is always better.

Over the winter, my chickens weren't laying. My Muscovy ducks kept laying all winter. I was able to make omelets for my son for breakfast. He is a picky eater and he never complained about the duck egg omelets. I heard that duck eggs aren't great for scrambled because of the higher protein or something like that. Try them in an omelet.

Thank you, I'll try it later. I actually like duck eggs, just not scrambled ones. I think you are right, something in the duck eggs make the scrambled eggs taste not as smooth and less flavor than chicken eggs.

I bet little kids do love bantams better, especially fluffy ones.

I'm not gonna show my two year old how cute they are, or he will want them for sure, even though his favorite color is green.

I'm more worried about bantams will be bullied by the larger girls.

If only I could figure out how to make a green chicken (that doesn't involve dye) I'd really have something.

Generally it is not a good idea to mix bantam and LF. I think these would be great for a family that wants a few chickens with a minimal commitment of space (maybe they live on a small lot). Where they might have trouble with space for even 2 LF hens, they could run 4 or 5 bantams and have real a real flock of tiny chickens. Kind of goes with the whole miniature farm animal craze. It may not become huge (pun intended), but for some families I think it would be an ideal flock.
