I would happily give him away for free. I let him and my other chickens out to free range and he does great with that and doesn't have a bad temperament at all.

Hello all! I've been lurking...

But just an update... (located in Northampton County with 9 12 week old white Silkies)
This morning I heard CROWING! So I've got at least 1 cockerel that will eventually need a new home... The rest is still a bit of a gender guessing game. They are hatchery chicks so not "show-quality" but still quite sweet little fluffballs. :)

Did you see this article? The fishercats are making a return to the Poconos and  throughout the state. I haven't seen any by me yet. I know that there are a lot of critters that are out there that I haven't seen.

We have fishers here. We were warned apt them when we first moved up here. I've seen them a couple times too. Haven't lost any birds to them yet though.
 
So, I have a guest in the house tonight in the hospital. One of my young silkies (about 10 weeks old) has become the object of desire of my son's RIR cockerel. Today, he must've gotten her good. We saw her in the coop just laying there and thought she was dead. But then, when I picked her up, she breathed. She has a gash on the back of her neck through every layer of skin. It's good sized too. I cleaned it up, put neosporin on it and made homemade stitches. It took 3 to close it. I've been giving her water with vitamins in it through an eyedropper which she does swallow. She doesn't move and keeps her eyes closed. The only sign that she's alive is her mouth moving slightly when she breathes. She has a good strong heartbeat though. Is there anything else I can do for her? She did squirm a bit when I was cleaning out her cut but hadn't moved much since. I think she in a lot of pain. She's definitely sleeping now though. Any advice? I'm cross posting in the emergencies section too.

You've covered the basics and it will be hard to tell what else may need done until her shock wears off a bit. Give her a quiet, shadowed and soft bed. If he was rough on her she could have rib or leg injuries which will make any movement painful. Once she is awake you can tempt her with chopped scrambled eggs and a bit of brown sugar in her water for extra energy. You may be able to see signs of bruising after a few hours though if she has the dark silkie skin it may not show.
Did she have a lot of blood loss? If she did She may be hypovolemic. Fluid replacement could aid her, for a bird her size I think it would be easiest to do it through sub-q injections. Do a search for 'fluid replacement injections' ...I can't remember the formula to figure the amount (which is weight based) off the top of my head.
Keeping the wound clean should allow it to heal up without too much interventions, antibiotics are always an option depending on your preferences. I have always been amazed at how well they heal with just the basic care.

Thank you. I'll try to look up the formula for that. I really hope she's going to be ok. I haven't checked on her yet this morning (just woke up). She does have the super dark skin so I doubt I'd be able to see any bruising buy I did feel around and nothing feels broken. It also doesn't look like she's lost much blood but I want the one who found her in the coop so I don't know if there was boys in there or not. Last night, I made her a little capsule out of dollar store baskets, lined the bottom with a towel and put her at the far end of my brooder to keep her warm and keel the babies off of her. I know, not the most quiet place but she felt chilly to me. She been wrapped in a towel since I found her. I showed her to my husband last night when he got home from work and he asked me why I didn't just put her out of her misery. But, he doesn't understand shock at all either. All he sees is a little, injured chicken that can't even move (it was late and she was definitely sleeping).

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for her. If she does make it through, she needs a good name. She's a little lavender silkie.

So sorry to hear about her. I hope she makes it. How did your fawn make out? Did it live?

She must've had some internal injuries. She passed away in my arms this morning :( I'm really disappointed. I only have 3 silkies left (not counting the older roo) and she was the only lavender. One of the silkie that I do have left has a crook neck and has been wearing a neck brace for a week straight now. I'm hoping that one recovers but that only leaves me two that are strong and healthy. One of which is super tiny. Hopefully they're girls. It would be my luck to end up with all boys :/

The fawn also passed away, the day after I found her. She was just way too weak unfortunately.
