For anyone interested...Rural King in Clearfield is selling their chicks for 50 cents!!!! They have them ranging in age from a couple of days to a couple weeks. Barred Rock, Wyandottes, leg horns, amberlinks, easter eggers, Jersey Giants, australorp and maybe a couple other kinds. They had ALOT left

Well today was interesting. While she was off nest I counted them. 12. But one wasn't one of the originals. It was not marked. I labeled and marked them all. She's not a small bird, she's the buff Orp. I don't know who laid the new one, but I think it is Bridget. She has very thin eggshells compared to the others so we'll see how this works.

Dennis, thanks for the offer, but I really don't need the extra birds. I may get rid of the roosters entirely and just keep hens. It's just a small backyard anyway.

I will have to clip their wings. The Fiends have figured out how to get over the fence.

I think they're the reason that nobody has had much interest in chicks around here this year :/ turkey poults were easy to sell but everyone wanted dirt cheap chicks. Except for a few people who know the difference between hatchery and breeder chicks.

LB:

I had a marans go broody last year, I gave her x4, she ended up with eight...and I had to go in each night to remove the extras....its been my experience that the Roos will keep the ladys local....I had many 'jail breaks' before the roos and only a couple of roadtrips since....and that was because the roo was too young ....my two cents....
