Our hens are definitely slowed down this past week or so, they would much rather hang out in the shady dust pit area than lay in nest boxes!
Some breeds are laying less than half their norm, but some are still going strong. 17 eggs from my flock of 22 Cali Greys yesterday. They are walking around with their wings held out to shed heat, but still lay like they did in May.Our laying flock of mostly mixed breeds is doing well also, the reduction there is from the number of broodies, not the heat, though they are in the coop with the worst ventilation of all of them. Really productive hens. I have started giving them more treats since they are such troopers in the heat.

Can anyone give me some ideas of how to find a moving company to move my coop from PA to NY? I'm thinking of renting a piece of ground at a farm there for my chickens. That would be much easier than trying to find a chicken friendly rental property for the entire family.

Can you imagine being broody in this heat? I keep kicking my broodies off their nests just to make sure that they go get something to eat and drink and some fresh air. I couldn't sit in a box like that all day. I even thought of propping the tops of the nest boxes open so the air would flow through the coop better for them but I'm not sure if they would approve of that or not.

Tilly, I do not.

My two girls are doing fine. I check on them, and so far they seem cool. I am lucky to have a 12X12 building cut in half, and they are in the shade most of the day. If I need to, I open the main door which is on their side (and you knew that. Sorry).
Duckling showed up in a sweatshirt Thursday. It was in the nineties, her mother is complaining about the heat, and they still put a sweatshirt on the child.

Good news ! I just gave girls ice water and a piece of watermelon. Everybody went crazy for it.

Duckling no longer live with you? Poor kid, she must miss you and the birds.

Well, Auro:

My older CCL girl has just gone broody....she was in the box yesterday when I came home from work and has not moved....I am also going into lockdown shortly...set the eggs in the afternoon of the 5th....and my three week old welbar and ccl pair.....so, not sure if I should stuff a handful of eggs under the girl, or give her my incubator hatchlings.....

This soon will have to be eggs. Although... Might be worth trying the chicks.
