I think rooster....see the pointed feathers around the base of his neck, with the black accents in them? Those=boy
Pullets have feathers with rounded or squared off looking ends.

The pointed ends can be hard to see in pictures...if you get another closer picture of the base of his neck it may be easier to tell for sure.

I was thinking roo also but he didn't seem to have any characteristics popping out. My sister wants to keep him to try and get some more green or blue egg layers. So I am happy with what ever gender either way. Thank you

Fl, I can't find a good source for learning about the SPR. I keep seeing what SOP looks like, but not much else.

Motorcyclechick if you are meaning silver penciled rock the chicken I just posted has silver penciled rock in him and barred rock, Easter egger, americauna, black australorp, and salmon faverole. He is quite the mixture and that's the only breeds she told me

Finally got our first eggs today. One was on the roost, the other one a few hours later right outside the coop.

Any suggestions on how to clean wounds on a chicken? My rooster I'm trying to rehome is definitely going some where tonight or tomorrow. He will not leave the other rooster alone. They are fine for a couple of days and then he's right back at him. The poor rooster that's being picked on (Johnny) has a very sore, mostly featherless, bleeding nub. Previously I have put gobs of vaseline on his nub to just help protect it. Today I went out and rooster apparently did some damage over night and Johnny's nub is bleeding and missing more feathers. I have separated them at this point. Just an FYI rooster is a silver laced Wyandotte and Johnny is a light brahma.

I have always had great sucess with pouring Hydrogen Peroxide on the wounds (I like it because it gets everywhere and is pretty natural.) I also then "paint" on a blend of olive (or cheap carrier) oil and tea tree oil. that seems to stick very well and I have never had problems with infection. Others have used Blu-kote with great success, and I bought some, but I found I haven't had a need to use it as yet.

As my crew was out for exercise one of my girls, who have just started laying, dropped 2 soft-shelled eggs one right after the other. She then stood in the same spot looking a bit dazed for a few minutes. My hubby and I eventually got her to walk back to the run with everyone else, but she just looked forlorn. I had already collected 3 eggs, one of which I assumed had been from her. Is this something that happens when their systems are just aligning? Should I be concerned? I haven't checked on her yet this morning, but will momentarily. Thanks!

Yeah, it can just happen. She was probably just stunned. Kind of like when the runs happen to you... Only less embarrassing!

x's 2 on that one...it is super funny to watch them work things out.
I have a bird that whines before she lays..just walks around driving the rest of the nuts..whining, . it's not loud or anything obnoxious, it's funny to me cause i can leave the run

Make sure it's clean and put blu-kote on it.

I realize I am late to a ll these posts..but this is my 'go to' for ER issues. I have yet to have to use anything after that. I've been lucky
on that end. blu-kote works great, covers the red color from injuries...also gives your hands a very nice blue sheen after your finished working with it
